There are some nice soft hack walkthroughs on this thread over at XDA, about 2/3 of the way down (Look for the Evo 3D Softhack/FAQ header). Talks about how to speed up your wwan/wan connections and improve CDMA call quality. Something fun to do while we wait :P

We're just waiting on the results of one last test and fre3vo will be made available to the dev community! #teamwin

Just got it on Twitter. Devs will be getting the method by tonight for sure

I really hope that it can be done with a MAC computer like unrevoked. I would hate to have to buy a cheap windows Windows computer to root my phone because I don't want to fill my macbook up with the Windows OS.

Could you run a virtual machine or bootcamp or something like that? You can always go to local Bestbuy and use a display model ;c)

boot camp is your worst case scenario

I really hope that it can be done with a PC computer unlike unrevoked. I would hate to have to buy a cheap mac Mac computer to root my phone because I don't want to fill my PC up with the Mac OS.

So I haz root... but no root apps work.

Unrevoked could be done with a pc. You just had to install the HTC drivers

Is linux still a fully-acceptable way to root things?

How's it going so far today? Debating the temp root, or just waiting for perm (this would be my first time rooting, so I don't know if I wanna dive in while the water is still a little murky, lol).

I'm gonna wait for permanent root. Temporary root is just a tease.

always, just make sure you set up your sdk correctly. and you adjust your adb commands accordingly (./adb <command> )

So I can't find this written in the thread, but can I install the OTA updates without messing up ability to root? I'm pretty new to rooting. I just know that with my Optimus, the rule was to NEVER accept an ota update.

Too early to tell for sure, but the general rule is to avoid them if at all possible. Teamwin has said they aren't telling HTC about the hole they found, for fear it'll get patched through OTA, but it's only a matter of time before they find it anyways, so I personally am not installing anything until I have perm root.
