Well tried to root my phone for more than 5 hours. Getting stuck at ./rageagainstthecage. Phone disconnects but never reconnect. Too bad, hopefully someone releases a fix for this problem.

This is the first Droid I have ever owned, so I hope I don't botch the root job. I have to post in order to see the files attached to this forum, so here it is :)

ADB Tool Software Components

:D

If you are not a programmer or Developer and installing ADB just for the Root and some Mods, then all you need is following files:

adb or adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
AdbWinUsbApi.dll

There is no need for downloading and installing entire Android SDK. Also, can someone please check whether one does really need to download and install Sun JDK (may be just Sun JRE)?

Download zip file SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse.zip from either

[APP]SuperOneClick v1.9.1 (Root, Unroot, Enable Non-Market App) - xda-developers

or

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

or

Super One Click v1.7.rar

Extract above 3 ADB files from one of these zip files and save it on your PC (C Drive) in a folder of your choice.

was just about to ask where the files are attached to this post, when i read the line that i need at least one post to see attachments, thanks in advance for the information

Okay, so here is my issue. The rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin file found in the OptimusRoot.zip file is causing me problems. As soon as I extract the three files in the zip to the tools folder in the Android SDK, my McAffee Security program IMMEDIATELY recognizes it as a Trojan and snuffs it out. This leads me to believe it's malicious, that or McAffee is errouneously recognizing it as a threat. I've tried deleting and re-downloading a couple of times and I get the same results.

Does anyone have any insight in to why this is happening and/or what I ought to try next? Thanks folks!
