How to root the Sprint G Optimus G (Windows only)

Here's a link to the XDA Thread about this:

[GUIDE] LG OPTIMUS G Korean version ROOTING - xda-developers

If you go to post #53 there's an English version of the batch file that makes this slightly easier to do, and the instructions in the same post work flawlessly. I can confirm this works on the AT&T version and other people in the thread have confirmed that it works on other versions too. Just search the thread for your carrier/model number to see if anybody has confirmed it, but it seems to work for every variant of Optimus G so far.

How can you tell if the drivers get installed properly? I installed them to my desktop and then connected my phone but nothing happens besides it scanning for media?

When you plug in your phone to your computer it should ask what mode to choose. Make sure you select MTP mode, and after a minute or two it should show up on your computer like a USB thumb drive that you can drag and drop files to. If that works, the drivers are installed properly.

Also, make sure you're using the ones from here: LG LGLS970 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

I'm 99% sure the Sprint and AT&T versions both use the same USB driver for Windows, but they have separate pages for the Sprint LS970 and the AT&T E970 if you want to be 100% sure you download the right one for your phone.

I updated to the new driver, first one I downloaded was 3.7.2 and now Ive got 3.8.1 which were all installed correctly but it still only recognizes the phone as a media player and I can open it up to see a bunch of folders but otherwise nothing happens. if I try the root program it just says cannot find the path specified.

Any ideas?

I'm having the same issues, I have the latest drivers and ADB is on, but it's not sending.
Anybody have a suggestion?

I rooted mine today. I had two issues that may help the community.

After I installed the drivers I needed to reboot the computer to get it to recognize the phone.

I tried running the root program as administrator but it didn't work. I tried just opening it and it worked.

Worked great for me. I did have to upgrade Busybox afterward.

I have tried this numerous times now, as Administrator and not, ADB loaded, Unknown Sources and Debugging both checked, and I can only get "the system cannot find the path specified". Can you elaborate on step #4: "...make sure that Windows see the device's adb connection correctly"? I go to the STUFF folder and click ADB.exe but the list scrolls so quickly and doesn't stay on my screen, so I don't know if it is actually 'seeing' my device. I have tried multiple USB ports and cables.

Thanks.

You have to open up a command prompt and navigate to the Stuff folder. Plug your phone in and type "adb devices" and press enter. It should list your device there. If it doesn't, try installing the drivers again. If it does, and you still get the error running the batch file, copy it into a folder with no spaces, such as "c:\opg" or whatever you'd like, just no spaces anywhere.

Ok "adb devices" lists my phone. So I run the bat file again and now I'm getting

"remote object '/system/app/backup-restore.apk' does not exist
remote object 'system/bin/ric' does not exist"

Thanks for any help here.

Did as instructed but didn't run .bat file as admin and that worked on the Sprint version.
Root confirmed!

Anyone having issue with slow recharging? I am on Sprint and it takes forever to fully charge. Everything else about the root is fine though

UPDATE: I actually switched the data cable with another and battery charged quickly.

hi everybody, tried the rooting on my optimus g but it stopped after i hit "restore data" on the phone. Nothing happened. Has anybody a solution for that problem?

thanks
TEX

Same here... software version ls970zv9 .. build ZV9.IMM76L

Anyone know of a fix? I think i may just factory restore - I'd assume that would revert the build to original.

... transferring all my ROMs off the storage is taking forever.

HELP PLEASE!:(
