hey guys, Just letting you know, I constantly updated my post to the most updated instructions on xda, maybe the OP wants to update his with all of the new additions. Looks like I am set for now with the updating of the post, so it would be fine to copy over to here. I can supply the formatting for my OP if needed. Also, I am going to be coming out with a program that does most of this for you pretty soon, it's close to being finished. I'll keep you guys here at AC updated too!

I was actually going to make a thread here too with my guide today haha, Looks like I was beaten to the chase! I will however post my program I am developing right now on here in a separate thread, after testing goes well. I will need some testers, so everyone, lookout for a thread I'll make asking for testers! And I'd love to chat sometime, I'll pm you right now in fact.

By all means, we could swap out that post for the one that i have. You might be the best person to answer most of the questions as well.

Or if you want to send me your instructions, i can just copy them over mine.

Thank you again for the original instructions!

Mods, feel free to swap out the threads/posts for whatever you see fit.

i am one of the unfortunate ones having permission denied when trying to write the PC36IMAGE the unrevoked-forever and the mtd-eng files to the sd card I get all the way to the # after toggling airplane mode but when i try to ./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img it says error opning: no such file or directory.

Finally got rooted and CM6 installed!! woohooo!

If anyone is having problems installing CM6 after this method, try flashing 0.76 Eng Bootloader. CM6 installed fine for me after I did.

Having issues

For the first time I am having issues rooting. When running the adb push commands it looks as if the files are not being transferred. But when I go to the sd card of the evo I find the files and they appear to be intact and the correct file size. This is the sd card image......

I obviously cannot explore the files on the phone yet to see if flash_image /data/local/ and rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/ are on the phone. But from what I am seeing on the sd card I am assuming they are on there.

This is what I am seeing in the command prompt......

I just dont understand how I can see 0 bytes transferred but find the files on the sd card? So other than the files appearing not to transfer in the command prompt everything seems to go through just fine. (Like I said and showed I can see the files on the sd card when I mount as disk drive) When I get to hboot I get a repeated message of PC36IMG.zip not found about five or six times (It goes by pretty fast) then back to hboot without installing the PC36IMG.zip. Does anyone have a clue what I am doing wrong? I have rooted at least ten different Android phones with this laptop and never had a problem. The only thing that has changed on my laptop since my last successful Android root is itunes update killed my machine a few weeks ago; I had to reload windows and all of my software. I am at a loss right now, does anyone have a clue as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

the thing I m kinda confused, all push command you executed there didn't copy all those files to your sdcard, but how could you execute chmod 0755 later with no error? which, according to what i understand, you had those files in the proper folders in the sdcard. did you copy all those file to sdcard root before your ran those push command?

^^Nope that is why I am going crazy over this. When reading the command line there was no data transfer but the files do go through. I did not put them there ahead of time. I have been playing with this all day, I can push and pull files in the command line. The command line shows zero byte transfer but the files are there on the sd card when I push. I created a folder in my documents folder and started pulling files from the sd card showing zero byte transfer but when I open the folder on my computer they are there. Something is wonky, nothing makes sense at all. This to me is like walking outside and seeing two moons, just does not make any sense at all.

Banging head

Banging head on this one. I need to go, I have to buy a new car for my wife. When I get back I am going to make a video showing this. Zero byte transfer in the command line but..... wallah files on sd card.
