Android Central Question

Hi all,

I cropped a photo in the default photos app, Gallery, on my Samsung galaxy s9, and saved it. On the s6 that created a copy of the photo but on the s9 it appears to have overwritten it! Is there a way to get the original photo back? Thanks.

Weird. Mine creates a copy. The only time I've seen this is when taking a photo, then while still in the camera, finding the photo in the camera app and editing it.

If you did it in the camera app, there's no "original" that was saved.

If you did it to a saved photo and the phone is rooted and you already have a deleted file recovery app installed, you might find the deleted one. ("Overwriting" a file is usually saving the new one, then deleting the old one. It's much too much work, even if the developer knows how (and it's at the system level, so most don't) to save the new file in exactly the same place as the old one was. (Rooting now and installing an app would probably overwrite the deleted file.)

This is just another reason that a) everything important should be backed up and b) you never work on the original - document, picture, music, anything.

Thanks for the responses. I just checked again and refreshing the gallery app seemed to have done it! The original now appears as well.
