How to upgrade to Kitkat

My girlfriend has an android phone, the Lenovo S720.

She wants to upgrade it to avoid hangs and crashes (a friend of mine told me that the Kitkat is much more stable than the previous android OS's) but I don't know how. Is it even possible to upgrade it to Kitkat? If not, what's the latest version that I can install to her phone?

A detailed step by step process would be very much appreciated.

I'm actually a WP user so I'm not too good with working around Android devices.

As far as I know, the latest OS it can be upgraded to is 4.0.4 (ICS). Just to be sure, go to settings > more > about phone and check for software updates.

The current OS is probably the most up to date. Less popular devices don't get many updates, if any. You may have to consider flashing a custom ROM.
