How to use google maps for driving directions

[Android Central Question]

I've searched for this topic on the Web and can't find a tutorial. I have Google Maps on my Galaxy Note (9 or 10 I think - I can't figure out how to make the thing identify itself). My dedicated GPS device is really great but outdated. I want to use my android for driving directions (I get lost very easily going to a new place) I have been told google maps can do that, but I haven't figured out how. Please give me step-by-step instructions OR direct me to a good tutorial on the Web.

Search for a place, at the bottom of the screen is button that says 'directions', tap that.

Additionally - you can just ask Google Assistant to 'navigate to...' and provide the address.
