How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

what are you talking about? all you should need to enable is lag fix. all four system partitions on my phone are ext4. all i did was enable lagfix. i have been back and forth between voodoo and nonvoodoo 3 or 4 dozen times in the last month.

GizmoDroid stated it in your HOW TO Voodoo post at XDA

Yeah, well I've read some of GizmoDroids posts at XDA and it does seem he knows quite a bit, but he was totally wrong when he posted in several places that if your phone is booting into blue stock recovery there is something wrong with your phone. He runs voodoo and had no clue this was an issue with nonvoodoo when you flashed a ROM the stock kernel reverted you back to stock recovery. That is until our diety and savior Adrynalyne fixed our problem in sc 2.9. So Gizmo has been wrong before.

OK this may be an issue with the not fully stable CWM 2.5.1.x then? I know when I enabled lag fix I did not get the womans voice but when I went back and ticked the second lagfix option I did.

That being said I know I tried voodoo in the past before I should have and only used the first option and I did hear the womans voice.

Maybe this is more of an issue with CWM than anything else and it is a crap shot if it works when enabled or not the first time?

Suicide, what's up? If you are using red cwm-all, the one without the white bitmap error messages, that is the current stable cwm. Maybe send Gunner a pm letting him know this issue. I know he posted earlier he is adamant you only need to do the one enable, but maybe there is something in the methods people are using that is causing this. If you read the new test results I posted in the themes thread you will see I have had no issues and 2.9 and red cwm-all seem to be extremely stable.

I have been mashing in removing wiping etc crap on this phone so much to learn more that I can also be confusing things....

I have been thinking today of doing a stock DI01 build and updating via Verizon to EA28. From there I was going to put on SC 2.9 and then put on SC 2.9 Voodoo. Setup all my shiz and get a clean nandroid backup.

When I do this I'll take notes on each step and if I have an issue getting voodoo to go with just the one option I'll let gunner know.

If you are wanting to go through all those steps just to make sure you get a real clean wipe and start fresh you should just use the method here in Adrynalyne's thread:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...-fix-your-phone-after-i-screwed-up-2-7-a.html
It is his fix through ODIN to repair any damage caused by 2.7 (which you'll notice is no longer available) and it only reverts you to EB01, so getting back won't take so long. You may be waiting several days to update to EA28 through Verizon as it takes a while for you phone and the system to sync and recognize you need the EA28 update.

I did this last week and in settings > Info I choose the option to have it check for updates. It found it right away and started pushing it to my phone.

Watch now that I typed it I'll do it and need to wait a week for the update....

sharkys right about the waiting thing. forget ea28. your just gonna flash over it any way. do the di01 all in one. the jsut skip to sc 2.9 with lazy root. let me know about the whole lag fix thing. if it doesnt work the first time try one of the other alternative kernles. your observations would be great. do you know how to use a terminal emulator on your phone?

sharkster, did you have to do the whole system lag fix too?

Hate to disappoint you Gunner, but I still haven't dipped my toes in the voodoo waters. I'm too busy right now testing out solutions to our previous fc issues when flashing themes. Maybe when I'm done with that, but I just still don't get the big advantage over nonvoodoo.

You won't see much of a difference right now. some things are a little bit snappier right now. ext 4 is a much better filing system then rfs. When we get the source code the big advantage is will come from the sound and display enhancements.

If you heard the woman's voice you are good to go. But if you want to make sure download quadrant from the market, run a full scan and see what your score is. Less than 1000- nonvoodoo, 1400-1600 range - voodoo

Ok, thanks for clearing that up Gunner

And tysdad, I think Gunner will back me up on this, but if I'm wrong correct me. Getting to voodoo is no problem. It's just like rooting, follow the instructions and it's a piece of cake. Where you are more likely to run into problems is what you do once you are on voodoo. The main thing to remember is don't flash nonvoodoo over voodoo. But you have to be extra careful in what you are doing. That is the reason I give the advice to new rooters to gain some experience and know what your are doing with flashing before making the jump to voodoo.

Good deal really can't tell much of a difference.

Yeah, probably like Gunner said you will see the difference in sound and display when the official release comes out and the devs get their hands on the source code and put out some custom kernels. Both voodoo and nonvoodoo will see benefits from custom kernels, so sadly even though we have Froyo, we are still waiting on Verizon's official Froyo release :'(
