How to Voodoo ***Updated 27 Mar 2011***KERNEL BUILT FROM SOURCE/SOUND/UNDERVOLTED

Gotcha.... well, I am officially now Voodoo'd! Was very simple. Ran Quadrant Benchmark just to make sure... score was almost 1500 :)

Thanks for all the help everyone... and kudos again to gunner for an awesome thread!

quadrent will give you an idea. the proper way is with terminal emulator. give the post a read.

glad to help sir.

Man... I feel like a nag! But... in CWM when I enabled lagfix, it says:

Voodoo lagfix is actually: disabled
next boot: enabled

Options:

/system lagfix conversion: yes
debug mode: no

Is this what I am supposed to be seeing? And what does it mean?

Sorry for all the probably pretty obvious questions... but I am really just trying to learn as much as possible about this stuff!

No worries. Enable lag fix and reboot. As long as you hear lady android you are good.

did I do something wrong?

I ran mount in terminal emulator and saw the ext4 in all 4 of the locations. Not sure why I am not hearing the lady android voice? Come to think of it, I do not remember hearing it when I first flashed the voodoo kernel either. Also, i rebooted into recovery 3 times now and each time it still says

Voodoo lagfix is actually: disabled
next boot: enabled

Ok sorry for the newbee question and I did read the procedure just don't want to brick my phone. So I'm currently running sc 2.9.1 with midnight steel theme and the new kernal eb10. So do I need to go back to sc 2.9.1 and then do the voodoo lag fix or can I just go straight to cwm and do voodoo? Any help would be great.

Mine reads the same way when I go into voodoo from cwm. Don't know why you didn't hear lady droid's voice the first time you installed the voodoo kernel. You should be ok until you can get help from Gunnermike tomorrow. If you need it that is, because your cwm is reading correctly and you have the ext4 files listed. This is one of the main reasons I recommend new flashers gain some experience learning how to do everything on nonvoodoo before attempting voodoo. In posts earlier tonight you didn't have clear understanding of what a kernel was, and you thought the zip files from Adrynalyne's post were flashed through ODIN. Not having that knowledge base and understanding of a lot of the basic rooting terms and concepts can get you in trouble in voodoo. See getting to voodoo is easy, follow directions and it's a snap. Where people end up getting in trouble and borking their phones is once they are already on voodoo, and they don't have that experience and knowledge base to draw on to avoid doing the wrong thing. The same mistake of flashing the wrong thing can be easier and cause less damage in nonvoodoo. I've been flashing for two months now, I caught on pretty quick, and I just now went and tried voodoo this past Sunday. Even Gunner didn't go to voodoo within a day or two of rooting for the first time. So you lucked out tonight nothing was wrong, but there may be times when no one is here to help when you've borked up your phone. If you've already had experience in nonvoodoo learning how to get out of trouble, you'll be better prepared to fix your mistakes when they can be more costly.

If you're already on 2.9.1 how can you go back to 2.91? You're already there. The new kernel is EC10. No you can't go straight to cwm and do voodoo. You have to flash the EC10 voodoo kernel in cwm, then enable lag fix. It's that simple, but please read my post to JOrtenzi above this one and consider what I say in there. If you are confused by any of this, you may not be ready to jump into voodoo. I am just looking out for your best interests here in an effort to educate you about the added risks of going to voodoo. If you still decide you want to go to voodoo, it is just as simple as I said above:

1. Download the EC10 kernel and place it on your sd card
2. Boot into cwm, clear cache and dalvik cache, flash the voodoo kernel
3. Get back to the main cwm page, scroll to voodoo, power button, scroll to enable lag fix, power button, back to the main cwm menu, reboot phone and wait for a long time, you should hear a female droid voice several times during this waiting period which could take as long as 15 minutes.

I'm not saying absolutely don't do it. I'm just trying to make sure you understand all the risks so you can make the best, most informed decision for you. Some people will jump into voodoo right away and never have a problem. I just feel if new rooters spend some time in nonvoodoo and get proficient at flashing different ROMs, themes, patches, and mods, learning how things work and especially how to get out of borked situations, you will have a decreased chance of running into trouble once you do make the jump to voodoo.

I appreciate your input... I am going through a learning process and tend to ask lots of questions. Thats just how I am and how I retain information. Sometimes I may get the terminology wrong, but I do tend to catch on pretty quickly. I actually was very hesitant about rooting in general, and spent a good 2 months or so just lurking this forum as a guest before I actually joined. And then again with voodoo... I have been rooted and flashing for about 3 weeks or so now and am very comfortable with CWM, but, as I said, I tend to ask a lot of questions, more so as a learning process and conformation that I know what I am doing (as you will notice in my posts and threads, I tend to ask pretty basic questions so I can eventually understand the more complex ones).

You as well as others on this site (DXC, Adryn, Sheepdog, Gunner to name a few) have been extremely helpful... so thank you for all you have been able to do for me... so far! (because I plan on asking LOTS of more questions!)

I find it funny that im known as an acronym, when did all this happen lol :)

The acronym makes you cooler, like your kind of mysterious or something, like your...........ah who am I kidding I'm just getting lazy and don't want to type out the whole thing :D

Ok, as long as you are comfortable with it. I just want to make sure everyone is informed when they make that decision. I think Gunner had been flashing for a while and had done all kinds of crazy stuff borking up his phone on purpose, so when he crashes, he knows exactly how to get out of it and it seems so easy to him, and not everyone has that same experience to draw on.
