[How-To] Wireless Tether for VD

I just log in here to check if there is a way to downgrade my software. yes, after the sw upgrade, my phone stop turning wifi hotspot on. I may have to root it too.

Can anyone else confirm that the wireless hotspot widget no longer works with VD? I am resisting the update on the grounds that I use this occasionally. I guess if they did patch it, it'll be time for me to root and run a rom!

EVERYONE can confirm it - worked until the update. now dead as a doornail.

Thanks for the ifno SFhub - I never rooted so I'm going with the KP500 Force Flash - I'm quite a newb at this, any chance I brick my phone or pretty fool proof?

well just reverted my update from this morning with a couple modifications due to my cmd but my phone is now back to normal and I just got a notification for the update again. So is there a way to delete this notification or do I just have to clear everytime I see it

Which build number and which SW version are you running. I was running SW LS670ZVD build ZVD with NO problems. After this monrings update I had SW LS670ZVD build ZVD.41B2924E which killed the hostspot widget. I JUST got a replacement phone (dont ask how) free of charge and now I have SW LS670ZVC build ZVC and the hotspot works. I know that the straight ZVD build works, but the NEW and IMPROVED (yeah right) build ZVD.41B2924E from sprint will kill the hotspot widget. Does anyone have the straight ZVD build to send to the phone?

Where did you see reference to a "straight" ZVD build that "works". The only build I am aware of is ZVD.41B2924E. It may be displayed differently in various status pages, but there is only one release I know of.

Any chance someone can post the steps to revert this update so we can get Wifi Hotspot again?

Thanks, just wanted to confirm that the method posted in the signature (from Feb 2011) would still work with this update.

Thanks, I just completed the update to V9 and everything seems to be back to normal. I'm going to update to VC tonight. Really appreciate the instructions on how to revert.

Apologize for the multiple questions, first time I'm flashing ROMs to this phone and wanted to make sure I didn't brick it on my first attempt.

Thanks again.

I really screwed up

Im a newb to the whole rooting process but have been reading posts for about 2 days:-[.....Well....here's what happened. I HAD LS670zvc software on my optimus S and tried multiple attempts and methods to root this phone with no luck......(im a newb so obviously there's something im missing). I tried the optimus s control center....i also tried the long method....(ironically after several attempts sprint sent me the zvd update to my phone. my wife has the same phone w/zvc and she didnt get an update....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm);) out of frustration mixed with lack of sleep and disgust for multiple failed attempts i said "screw it" and accepted the update. Now that I'm awake and rested,:-[I am regretting my decision....it seems it may be impossible for a newb to root his phone now. can anyone help me.........remember i am a newb.:'(. If theres anyone willing to "root my phone for me" by guiding me step by step please do. Compensation is a possibility...

any way to prevent the update from being forced?
The update isn't forced, it is nagged.

You can
1) choose not to accept
2) remove Sprint ID and even if you accept, it won't install
3) rename /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip so the signature check fails
4) change your build.prop fingerprint to make it look like you have an update phone.

There was some other trick that may either disable or delay the next bugging you notice. Something about accepting then canceling or shutting down the phone. I forget the details.

This was a success...I've never attempted anything like is, and I was quite unsure of what I was doing, but it worked well...AND, my wi-fi widget is working again...

Thanks so much!
