Pretty sure I have bricked my Nexus 3-4 times since I have had it lol. Easy enough to fix and it try all over again.
This phone literally is the EASIEST to root and rom. They even make a toolkit that will do it in a few clicks for you. If you want JellyBean go to the root section and do some reading. If you need help, any of us there will be glad to help but I am willing to bet that you will find it to be a lot easier than you think.
Whats the name of the toolkit?
Because the WHOLE point of having a Nexus is that you shouldn't HAVE to root/flash to get the latest updates (IMHO). I have nothing against doing it, it just defeats the purpose if you ask me. You get a Nexus precisely so you don't have to jump through any hoops to stay current, I think.
As for the original question posed by this thread, if ANY non-Nexus phone gets it before the VZW GNex, I'm bailing and getting the next iPhone. This whole Verizon-branded Gaxy Nexus
uh no the debate was ice before jb. 4.04 is nothing.. this phone was suppose to get that in late dec it came like five months later. This is Verizon we are talking about. But the Nexus will get the update before any other phone. Why? Because no Verizon Bloatware or Manufacture Bloatware to get working. It will still take many months for it to push, but the Nexus will get it first. I still remember the threads on weather the Razr would get an update(To ICS) before the Nexus(To 4.0.4). We all know what happened there.
Sorry for the triple post but this is pure gold. Anyone disagreeing with this has issues. Also for most people a working out of the box phone with reliable signalThis is EXACTLY what I was thinking. If I wanted to root and unlock and mess with my phone I would not have purchased the Galaxy Nexus. I have absolutely NO desire to do that. I run a business and my phone is integral to it. If I had a job or my phone was jsut to check twitter then maybe. I dont have time for any issues and Im 38 years old and I just don't care to tinker with things anymore. I just want it to work out the box.
Im bailing too if other phones get it. Maybe I will just bail from Verizon. I read somewhere where some guy as a nexus GSM and his phone is updated perfectly and he doesn't have to deal with the Verizon non-sense.
The mere idea of rooting is annoying to me.

There's a ton of reasons, most of which I've put out at length in many threads here, but I think I can say it more simply. For me, the major appeal in the Nexus is that it is vanilla Android. Pure Google. While none of these roms have the bloat some of you seem to dread so much, and I would not really call most of them skin-like, there's one simple fact you ignore. They are not pure Google.
I find rooting/romming neither annoying nor appealing. I'm enjoying my phone, so I wouldn't really call what I'm doing waiting.

etc is #1... if you wanna tinker why not just do it on a tablet?
Well even if the international galaxy s3 gets jelly bean before the Verizon gnex it would still be bull crap.
Been a while since I posted...but it's honestly still on the table that the Verizon GS3 might receive the update first especially with a leak out in the wild right now, and it's Verizon's top selling "current" phone.
I'm still surprised that anyone is cool with an Android update hitting a non-Nexus device before even just one on the list of Nexus devices whether it be GSM or CDMA especially by those who were gungho behind that being the number one reason for going Nexus. We're not talking about the Nexus S, but a Nexus that was released less 9 months ago.
You all can scream the ability to Root and Boot all you want, but the number one reason suggested to those who weren't geeking out on the phone was the future proof and fast updating coming from Google directly. Now all of these people who were insured by their tech friend that this would be the case are running for the hills because it's not happening that way. And a lot of these tech savvy friends aren't upset that they were led astray by the promise of an experience that drastically changed and then fed others that information.
This phone was under marketed. So how did the word truly get out about this phone? Through you and me, the tech savvy guys who were up to date on what's new. And what's the general answer from tech savvy guys now. Root & Boot, it's simple. You void your warranty, but there's little chance of anyone finding that out. But these people didn't want that hassle in the first place. If they were the kind of people to do that kind of stuff, they wouldn't have been asking the tech guys. Then when some of these people mess up their phones Rooting and Booting there you are again with "You must of done it wrong. Read the countless instructions online." What a lack of pride in the info put out there. Then you guys won't even stand beside these people when they take a stand.
And I know there will be those who say that, "Well I didn't force anyone to buy a phone." But what a weak copout! Do you really want to be associated with a phrase plenty of Con artists have used as their defense in court?
Then there's the "What will being upset do about it? We can't do anything." They have a word for that...complacency. There are ways for consumers to fight this type of thing, but it's not about whether you can do something about it or not is it? These days people just don't feel like it and hate to see others that do. "Why rock the boat? There's no point. Don't make insurance companies pay for damages fix it yourself, just buy a new one." Wow everytime I read the posts!
Just read this and pretend that you don't know about Rooting and Booting ROMS to your phone:
Just Root your phone and Boot up a custom ROM on it. Yeah it voids your warranty, but it's amazing to have on your phone. You can manually update it to the new OS anytime you want, but you won't get OTAs like you originally wanted to do. Make a backup because you could possibly brick or render your phone useless with a bad ROM, and if you're one of the rare few that Verizon does catch you'll need to buy a new phone.
So yeah, I'm kind of irked that I convinced people to buy this phone, though I truly love the phone myself. And this isn't a post starting an argument. I just don't understand the views and stances some of you take on a matter like this. It's a discouraging reflection of a our country's mentality.
As someone who puts an immense amount of pride in my work, my guides, and who has singlehandedly helped out new rooters and flashers on the phone, through chats, pms, via remote access, and through countless "live" threads here, I can tell you without a doubt that the support you receive here in this space of the Internet would never leave one helpless or hanging. We have the best support of any major place out there, bar none.
Secondly, it renders your warranty voidable, not immediately void.
Third, good post in part.![]()

Exactly. Root if you please, if not then just sit back and enjoy what is still one of the best android phones there is. We have heard that its testing for Verizon and so it could come out tomorrow for all we knowSlow clap![]()
Quick thoughts:
1. Until some other phone gets the JB update before yours, why all the fuss and stress over RUMORS?
2. Must every one of these threads turn into a "just root it" vs "I don't wanna" people arguing for no reason? Everyone knows the points, I wish everyone would just unlock, root, and do it too, but I'm as sick of these back and forth debates as anyone else.
