How's the battery life on the Moto X Pure Edition?

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

Sometimes it takes about a few days for the battery to settle in. I came from a G4 as well and I have better battery now with the Pure. Plus the turbo charger is great too. I use to have to swap the battery out of the G4 twice to make it though the day. Now I only have to charge my pure for 20mins in the middle of the day and I'm good until late at night.

Thanks man. I'm hoping we end up in the same boat and I'm just jumping the gun here. I have noticed it charges ridiculously fast. I also spent 2 hours today in a dead zone (bar with some friends). G4 with that 19 hours off charger didn't go through that.

If your battery is getting you a full day why does it matter?

My issue is more the principle if that makes sense. My G4 only suffered when bloat hindered it. I bought the pure specifically because bloat wouldn't be there but it seems hindered anyways.

As a side note there are times where I'll get up, go to work, then leave work to spend the night at my girlfriends, where I don't charge the phone so I can go 2 days without charging (more convenience not neccesity) the G4 did this admirably (pre bloat killing it) but if the Pure stays this course it couldn't do what the G4 did. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Battery seems to be lasting longer

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but as I've had the phone for a week or two, the battery seems to be lasting longer than when I first received it. I was having to charge it by around 5pm to get it through the rest of the day. Maybe the battery is settling in. Anyone else notice any changes with their battery?

Someone else on the thread I made mentioned this as well. It's comforting to see since right now the battery is worse than my old G4.

That would drain your battery real fast because the phone is steady searching for a connection. Best of luck

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

If ur in a dead zone put on airplane mode. Solves the drainage from searching for network.

Also give it a week for your phone can learn what u do on the daily so then the battery will learn off that

Re: Battery seems to be lasting longer

Im seeing a slight change had it since it came out usually ended a day on 30 now seeing above 40, it makes a difference, hopefully by end the month it be all settled and my battery will be great.

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

It's weird cuz my previous phone was G4, and it has a terrible battery life. Moto X works on battery much longer. Something like 3 SOT on G4 and 4-4.5 on my Moto so far, with no power savings (like turned off all kinds of syncronisations or auto brightness).
This phone is MUCH better then G4 in all fronts.

PS I beg a pardon for my thick russian accent =)

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

Being that you carbon copied your set up, I'm thinking you have an app that's doing what it wants, and that's on both phones.

You say it was bloat on the G4, but if the bloat isn't running it only takes up memory, not battery.

I would recommend a fresh setup with a reset, adding 2 or 3 apps a day until you can determine which one it is. Or look in app manager to see what's always on.

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

All the active notifications and eye movement sensors impact battery life. Turning that stuff off, the battery went up by at least 15% for me. Also the relative brightness impacts as well. I had my Note 4 set to 40% brightness and 20% is the same brightness on the Pure, so I leave it there.

The GPU on the 808 seems to run hotter than the 805 when going all out and an issue with the G4 as well. Motorola needs to add a throttle option, since most apps do not need the GPU running at maximum overdrive. The 805 handles most games and all apps smoothly capping the 805 at 70% (that is what the Note 4 throttles as max with Samsung's power save option). This is not the same thing as the stock power save option on the Pure, since the Pure throttles a lot more stuff than just the chipset and very low.

Motorola should have put more thought into this and added a throttle option for users. The 808 seems to not be a very self-efficient chip and needs the user intervention with throttle caps.

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

I hear you man. My battery life has been getting steadily worse every day I use it. I went from 14 hours with 4 hours SOT, now down to 3 hours over 12 hours. I have installed only bare essentials so far (not even facebook) and it's just getting worse. I have good reception right now and I'm at 90% with 20 mins SOT and 40 mins off the charger. At that rate I'll get 3.3 hours and 6.7 hours off the charger. WTF?

This and the terrible viewing angles are what have me second guessing it. You lose about half your brightness if you're 30 degrees off from facing it directly. It also refuses to pair with either of my Bluetooth speakers. I'm a week into my purchase, so if this doesn't clear up over the weekend I'm sending it back. I really wanted to love this guy, too... :(

Re: Worse battery life than my G4...how?

Then carrier bloat killed it, ruined the battery life. Sold it, and eventually got the Moto x Pure thinking no carrier bloat will kill this guy!

My G4 only suffered when bloat hindered it. I bought the pure specifically because bloat wouldn't be there but it seems hindered anyways.

Without any details or screenshots of how you use the phone no one can help you.

Battery life discussions tend to get crazy because you get people who get crazy SOT but have location, bluetooth, nfc... all off, no accounts syncing, screen brightness at 2%, never leave a strong wifi signal....etc. you get the point. Those same people can't fathom the idea that anybody would use their phone any differently than they do. You also get people on the complete other end of the spectrum and everywhere in between.

You seem to equate battery life solely with Bloatware, and while I hate Bloat as much as anybody there's a lot of other contributing factors that will have a much bigger impact.

Try looking at your usage graphs and stats in the battery settings and actually seeing where your battery is going. Signal strength plays a huge roll and basing your opinions of a phone on the battery life for 1 day that you knew you had no signal sounds like you just want people to back you up and make you feel better about buying another new phone.

If you are just looking for an excuse to go back to LG then just do it, if you genuinely want to use the moto then don't be so rash and be willing to try things or even a factory reset. Or, for someone with SOT as low as yours but prioritizes battery life look at a droid turbo or something like that.

Re: Battery seems to be lasting longer

I have seen improvements as well which is encouraging.

Had my phone since Friday. Battery is getting more consistent and lasting a set amount of hours for me. 4 hours SOT is decent. Slightly better than my G4. Adaptive display is on along with a solid WiFi and location. I'm a happy camper.

I'm really just looking to get the same battery life i got out of the same battery size with a similar screen size.

I understand the bloat confusion. Here's the back story

I had the TMO G4 and it was doing AMAZING. Then suddenly a TMO app went rogue, started showing up on battery stats as bine up to 30% of my battery usage. Couldn't uninstall, couldn't kill it without rooting. Gave up and sold it.

My thought was since the only thing that ruined that phone's battery life was the bloat that a phone without any bloat and the same size battery would perform as good with a carbon copy of its apps and settings.

I'm not looking for validation here on my decisions to feel better about it, I'm more just venting and looking to other people's experiences that could be in similar situations.

Triple your battery life

I'm a light to moderate user. Talking about the phone of course. I was getting poor battery life and everything looked normal when I checked battery usage. I did all the usual battery savings things. I hadn't set up Moto Voice yet so I disabled it and my battery life tripled. It doesn't show up in battery stats. I use Dynamic Notifications for screen off messages and won't use Moto Voice. Battery life is fantastic now.

Re: Triple your battery life

So far the battery life on mine has been great. No problems.I'm almost always Max. out signal wise too :)

In other words... the battery life sucks, simple as that. The Moto X Pure gets 30-50% less battery life than other android phones with similiar sized batteries (2900-3200). I wish Motorola would start making high-end phones for a change. They always end up with mid-end compromised frustrating devices. The Pure looks nice and all but it's still a big, thick, heavy piece of phone with bad battery life, average camera and ok screen. If moto could make a device with stock android, moto features (voice and screen), premium design and stellar hardware, that would be awesome. (Sorry, but the turbo doesn't qualify, the OS is never optimized well enough and omg the ugliness.)
