How's the battery life on your Nexus 5X?

I know this was posted a while back, however I feel you aren't looking at this the right way.

By using Doze, you save battery when you aren't using the phone. This increases the amount of time your phone can sit idle off the charger. While that doesn't direct affect battery while screen is on, it does mean you can use your phone more over a longer period of time without having to charge it, assuming you go through phases of using your phone for something, then set it down and forget about it for a bit at work for example.

Example. You use your phone throughout the day without charging. You actively use your phone (screen on time) for 3 hours throughout that time, with periods of inactivity between uses. At the end of the day, the phone without doze has to go on the charger before the one with doze because it conserved battery during the inactivity periods. Does the way I'm explaining it make sense?

You are technically getting better screen on time/usage because Doze is allowing you to stay off the charger longer thanks to saving battery during inactivity.

Yeah but how quickly does doze go into effect and how effective is it in short bursts? Most people who use their phone randomly throughout the day are probably touching it every few minutes or less. I saw a study once where they said an average person checks their phone like every minute or so. I doubt doze can do much unless you are letting it sit on your desk at work for hours at a time. The real and only benefit of doze I see at this point is for overnight.

Which is a valid point too, I guess it just depends on your usage. I think doze goes into effect within a half hour was the number thrown around. Doesn't work for everyone but it is something.

Honestly, my battery life has been awesome since I have gotten the phone Friday. I have been using it off and on since I left this morning at 630 and its only used 20% by 130. My moto x 2nd gen would leave me hanging at 15% leaving work around 7pm. So at this rate I will only be down to 60%. I consider that to be a good result. With the charger it comes with, your back up to battery levels of adequate rates in no time. I really do not understand why people are complaining about batteries in phones these days. Go outside, look up a little, maybe find a hot girl. If you are wasting your life and worrying about battery on a phone you have bigger problems.

Some rely on a phone for work in a fast paced job that offers few opportunities to charge up (even for 15min). There are other non-discretionary circumstances where battery life is essential. So, yeah, battery life is important to many people for different reasons.

I get what you are saying but like I tried to say - if Doze saves 1 or 2 or 3 percent in one hour over a none Doze phone it doesn't translate to much in terms of usage afterward. For me it would have been better to look at how to get more use from the phone when being used.

Sorry, but I just can't rave about Doze when a 3000mah battery would have been better.

Yep. I get some really want it due to being on the go 24/7. Whereas someone like me .. I always have a charger near me so I can always plug in whenever. Rarely am I worried about battery life.

I don't think I'm being too unreasonable to expect better battery life than this, am I? I mean compare my screenshots to the two people above me who posted theirs. Our phones have been off the chargers for roughly the same amount of time, similar remaining battery percentage. Yet they both have 3.5 hours of screen on time compared to my 1.5. At this rate, I wouldn't come even close to 3 hours before the phone dies. Maybe a factory reset is in order...

I'm feeling good about what I've seen so far. Will get a great idea tomorrow.

How is your signal (click on the graph). Even on wifi a crappy signal can drain your battery faster. Mine is always orange/red at home which eats battery more than other people see.

I was actually thinking this evening that could be the culprit. I moved to a new town a couple months ago. Even with Verizon, signal is pretty crappy. Which is surprising, this place is a fairly large commuter town for a big city, not the boonies by any means. I think maybe we've outgrown ourselves and they need to build a few more towers in the area.

I've been using my 5X for 3 days now and today it had it's "hardest" use yet. I woke up at 0300 to take some calls with EU coworkers and took the screenshot at 2126, so ~18.5 hours later. My screen on time was only 2:27 but I did spend over 3 hours on conf calls. Battery is sitting at 30% now as I head to bed. I also listened to a few hours of music during the day and watched a couple short youtube videos.

Not really a "power user" kind of day, but still, not bad. For me the battery seems to be adequate, though I need more time giving it a real test. Thankfully in the end it does not really matter since this will be my wifes phone once the 6P arrives. As she is far from a power user, I think the phone will be great.

First full charge last night and I have used it for about a half hour and its saying only 9 more hours of battery left. We will see how this does today and if it changes after a few days of use.

In real world usage, my SOT is anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours. At work, my unit is in the old Chemo/Rediation area, so there is lead everywhere.

Before Marshmallow, my N6 would be at 15% at 1530. I unplug at 0600. After MM, my N6 was around 40% when I got home.

My N5 would be dead by 1200.

My N5X is around 35% when I leave work! Now, on slow days where there are no patients, I have to charge by 1400. This is with over 3 hours of SOT, in a lead box, where iPhones are charged 2-3 time a day, the i6+ are charged at least once a day. I leave with 30-35%. When I get home, it lasts until lights out at 2300.

Very satisfied thus far!

Here is the second "all day" battery stats. By that I mean I started in the morning at 100%. Ten hours later, the phone is at 14% with 5hrs SOT. N.B. Bluetooth was off all day. WiFi was off when WiFi was unavialble (most of the day). I manually adjust screen brightness with adaptive brightness turned off. As with previous post, there's quite a bit of yellow and orange under cellular network signal. With better cell coverage, I imagine I could get more standby and SOT.

I don't understand why people think since something isn't a concern for them it shouldn't be for anyone else.

Believe it or not, people DO have different needs! Some people NEED a battery to last longer than 3 hours SOT. And believe it or not, some people DONT have access to charging their device while they're needing this additional usage.

Furthermore, people are entitled to expect the battery to last longer than say their previous nexus 5 given the large increase in battery size and supposed battery saving measures. A very VALID concern. Probably the number 1 concern for smartphone

And finally, if it takes you so much time and effort to find a "hot girl" that you have no spare time to think/complain about something such as your phones battery life, you're doing something very wrong ;)

Finding "hot girl", easy.

Getting "hot girl" and keeping "hot girl" lots harder, sometimes impossible.

But I am optimistic :)

I've had mine on since I got it last week and it lasts my full day in every case. Phone calls, scheduling via Deja Office and some google look-ups. And if course lots of time exploring all the settings. I've yet to get it below 30% in a normal day but did get a car charger and an extra desk charger. The fact that it charges so darn fast is a real plus for me. The C connector is nice since there is no wrong way to insert it so short of wireless charging it is the next best thing. Overall I am very happy with this phone and the project fi coverage in the NY - NJ area.

I'd just like to point out that I do not like the SoT variable to compare battery life. Too many other factors to take into account. The only variable that should matter is what time does the battery die / do you need to charge it. If it's after your day is over then success, if not then you might want to look elsewhere or just have a charger handy.

I am only getting 1-2 hours of SoT but it doesn't bother me because it gets me through a day and I am doing plenty of other things with the screen off (streaming music etc...).
