Task Killers aren't needed on Froyo (Android 2.2). Many apps automatically start back up after a task killer kills it. This is what drains your battery, the constant killing and restarting of apps.
From what I've experienced, syncing with HTC Sense drains huge battery also. I would suggest going to Settings--->Accounts & Sync and disable anything you don't need or want to be constantly syncing. I have my apps like "Stocks" and "News" only update when I open up the app. HTC Sense is disabled. Obviously this should be done to suit YOUR needs. With this done, I EASILY get a full days worth out of my Inspire (12-14 hours). This is with 1 push e-mail account and 2 other email accounts polling every 30 minutes. I surf the web for about an hour and maybe play a game for an hour also. I'm also streaming music (Pandora or Shoutcast) for my commute to and from work. I make a couple of calls and text about a dozen times a day. Hope this helps.
