[Howto] Get to ED01 (Official Froyo) Quickly

What's the consensus? Do the OTA or wait it out for a rom? I have the time to mess around, if needed.

I'm waiting for the community rom since it's going to be a build on ED01. Which will be better than the OTA since the bloat will be off and plus adrynaline and other devs are going to work their magic on this.

But it is all up to you.

I hear ya. Have you heard if anybody is having problems with adobe flash 10.2 after they went to ED01? In a prior post a few weeks back, there were issues for people who upgraded to flash 10.2.

I have not heard anything

But if you want to try a rom out based on ED01, try Nitros Evil Fascination. I'm running it now and i like it a lot.

Thanks for posting this thread. I reverted and updated, and my phone is working great with Froyo (I never installed one of the leaked versions because I kept hoping they'd release the official one shortly).

I was running an DJ09 before (for the GPS fix). This newest version seems to have GPS that works great too, and everything is much faster and responsive. This feels like how the phone should have worked from the start. Anyway, thanks for posting the directions.

ok installed ED01 everyway pooosible and the ph specs still say :EB01
so i'm in the rut seeming.. tomorrows another day..

So many of us are rooted...so many...

Getting to ED01 isn't easy without any radio leak. So, to get to ED01, so you can get yer bran' spankin' new modem!, follow these directions.

First, we will downgrade to DL09.
Do this by flashing this DL09 package in Odin (pda button, pda button, pda button)
Index of /files/stuff

Then, download this EA28 update.zip, put it on your sd card, reboot to recovery and flash:
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Finally, download this ED01 update.zip put it on your sdcard, and reboot to recovery and flash:
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

Then, flash whatever the latest and great cwr 2.5.x is (I've not kept track.) Do not use cwr 3.x for now, imo. You can then flash one of the stock rooted roms, or root yourself via flashing a super user package from cwr.

Good luck!

This method and these files finally worked for me to get to Froyo 2.2.1. The files and methods in the other sticky posts all had random issues for my phone (random forced closes, problems with the SD card, problems with Google Services, etc.).

Runs like a champ now.

Thanks, Adrynalyne....

Updates fail

Hello tried the updates from Adrynalyne a few times and they start then fail. I started with the EA28 Update first and nothing. I also downloaded the files 3-4 times just in case. Goal is to return to stock and get the OTA.

Can we get a new sticky with instructions on how to simply root this? I don't want to root and install a new ROM right now...just plain root so that I can install Titanium. I don't want to debing or debloat....just plan old root. Everyone keeps pointing to the old How To Root thread, that method doesn't seem to work anymore.

I'm currently running SC 2.9.2 voodoo and have a nandroid backup from when I started of DL09. I guess that nandroid would be a rooted DL09 since I would have had to be rooted to do the nandroid.

Can I restore that nandroid backup and then just do either the OTA ED01, or do Andrynalne's ED01 update.zip?

Or.. would it be best just to go through his full procedure?

.. and based on his 1st post - I'm assuming his ED01 update.zip would be exactly the same as doing a OTA update. (seems like a dumb question - but just want to clarify)

People have reported not being able to get the OTA when they are rooted. If you use the zip files, best to use the full procedure.

Thanks LandShark,

So - will this be the exact same as the OTA with the ED01 Kernal, radio, and modem?

I realize I would need to flash another EDO1 ROM to keep CWR, but what I'm most interested in is the ED01 kernal, radio, and modem for now. (at least as a base to start from) -- then move on to the debloat or community ROM

Was wondering if we could run a different modem with the 2.2.1 ed01 build. Tried this but the battery is dying much faster

From what I'm reading in the OP, this will be the exact same as the OTA, just faster for those who are having trouble with the OTA. So if you want the ED01 kernel and modem (same thing as the radio), this will be your best method. Just be aware if you go to the community ROM, you will end up with a different kernel. Debloat/Deodex contain no kernel or modem, so you would keep the ED01 modem and kernel if you went to debloat /deodex.

I have run the EC01 modem with ED01. Since Adrynalyne previously said anything above and including the DL09 modem would work with EC01, I would imagine the same would hold true for ED01.

Cool. I was running 2.9.2 with ea28 and my battery would last all day and woods need a charge till like midnight the majority of the time. And sadly ed01 is about dead, and its not 1.. I'll give it a few days more and we shall see

Thanks so much.. 1 more question (sorry)

Will going to the community ROM keep the ED01 modem? (just new kernel)

Yes, no modem in community ROM, so you will still have the same one you had before flashing the ROM
