HTC 10 Owners: First Impressions, Initial Reviews Thread

All I can say is wow. Two days on it, coming from an M9, and I love everything. Even the new TouchPal keyboard. Everything I've wanted in a phone. I say this now but, I will probably not upgrade for a while. Every year I was longing for something in every phone I've owned for the last 5 years( HTC Desire HD, Xperia TL, HTC One M7, M8, S6 Edge and M9). I have finally found the one in the 10. Audio, Cameras, Screen quality, Software, fingerprint sensor, theming and the updates HTC has committed to are all getting a perfect score from me. All that and the customer service HTC provides(uh-oh protection and warranty) will keep this 📱 in my 👐 for years to come.

Quick question: Does your sim tray recess in when you fully press it in, or does it sit flush with the sides of the phone? Mine is recessed and sorta annoys me since I've never seen a sim tray do this on a phone. The SD tray does the same thing btw.

Im and still loving the device. Normally after the first week wears off i start looking at other devices. I absolutely love this device. It is still speedy. Looks amazing. Great camera. Etc. So glad i decided to trade my s7 edge for it. It's as close to the perfect phone for me i have found so far..

For some reason I keep finding reasons to try and use the phone. I haven't done that since the m7. While it isn't the best in every category it is the best all around phone I have ever used.

I'm only on day two with my 10 so I know things need to settle. Great phone; I came from the One M9. There is so much I am liking about the 10.

I am, however, noticing some stuttering, mostly when swiping from panel to panel. Anyone else? After Marshmallow, my M9 was buttery smooth. Wiping the system cache seems to help. I can't say I notice Boost+ making any difference.

What are some solutions for minimizing stuttering that have worked for others?

I'm agreeing with you but this is to show them that s7 has a major issue compared to the slight 10 issue

My S7 Edge doesn't do this (just tested). Most likely a defective unit in that video.

Yeah, here's mine and there's no cray display weirdness like that video:

Look, with any device there are going to be lemons out there on them internets. But an S7 Edge display is not normally pink, nor should it exhibit strange color deformations like the one in that video. It should look bright and crisp no matter what the angle. However, no matter how you slice it the 10's pink shift in tone and loss of brightness at angles (like when simply being placed on a desk) is just something that really good displays don't do. Plain and simple. It's still a good display when viewed head-on, but it's just not the best display available.

If I could get the display of the S7 Edge wrapped in the body of the HTC 10...omg...I'd figuratively die.

Yes, I've noticed it and not just on the 10 but also on the A9. The only way I avoid the lag is by using the swype/gesture typing function on the keyboard...or just bypass the app entirely and use WhatsApp, etc.

Damn! I though my A9 had this lag because of the 2gb ram but perhaps it's the strange choice of HTC to mix pure Android apps with HTC ones

If you don't see a rainbow on the right hand side of the display screen you posted, then you need glasses😂

I am seeing nothing like what you posted. I get you like your HTC 10 and by all means .. love it to death but no reason to exaggerate issues. ALL major phones can have "lemons" such as some people with the HTC having rainbow (or pink hue) screens but majority not seeing it. It very well could be a defect since devices manufactured at mass can have this .. it would be nice if they didn't but that is life and that is why warranties exist.

In relation to the thread it doesn't really matter unless someone is simply comparing their experience. If you want to debate on why you think the HTC 10 is superior to the S7 please have a thread in the Phone Wars area started -- send me a PM if you want that.

So far, I am happy with the phone. The biggest issue for me is getting used to the new menu system and how it works compared to my old HTC M8. It is much more Google, and I am used to Sense 6/7. The biggest issue is finding things which are not as intuative compared to the old way of doing things. I miss some of the "look and feel" of the old Sense, but that is just personal preference than issue. My biggest gripe, oddly is not about the phone, but about cases: No UAG, No Otterbox, which annoys me. In some ways I feel like those PRIV owners who had to re-learn things about their software from the start rather than the very smooth transition from the M7 to the M8. The size is almost perfect (I like smaller phones), and with the Unicorn Beetle case on it, I have no fear if I drop it. I am still going to add a glass screen protector since I do my best to protect the phone(s) from any damage which might reduce their resale value. IMHO a very solid offering from HTC.

Re: HTC 10 owners first impressions/review thread

i played with one at verizon as at&t doesn't carry it. its not bad, not a fan of the chamffered edge and the capacitive buttons. i may end up buying in the future when aosp roms hit. at this point ill keep my n5x. IMO the $600+ price point is too expensive.

It's 660$ in my country but I bet it will under 600$ in 2 weeks max, they overprice it the 1st weeks to milk the rich geeks then the price drop significantly

You don't see the rainbow in his picture he posted?

For those who have a battery drain issue, don't use quick charge if you do not need it. I have experience that charging with regular slow charge the battery drains slower and last longer.

I also believe this... But to add, I believe you can still use the same quick charger, just leave the phone plugged in charging... For example, I just leave it charged overnight and my battery seems to hold its longevity

I'm using the m9 charger and have the quick charge for when I am on the road and need a quick too up. Quick charge is for travellers and not for office people like myself.

This could be true. My QC3.0 worked great for about a week, then one day, it didn't charge at all after an hour! Then it acted very strangely and charged super slowly. The phone would then discharge at a seemingly quick rate. My regular chargers worked without any issues. Verizon had no phones or chargers in stock to swap out, but they suggested a new cable. They took the stock one and gave me one of their own branded ones. So far, so good, but I plan to keep a close eye on this thing and will act quickly for a warranty replacement.

I never said I didn't. At that angle and how he took the photo it is very faint .. Nothing like what you posted. Many screens will look odd when thrown to an odd angle since they aren't designed to be viewed from there.

I was just saying if you want to debate the HTC 10 vs. S7 I can make a thread in the Phone Wars area. This thread is for people to share their first impressions about the HTC 10 since many readers will want to come and see how people are rating it -- Not a war of Samsung VS. HTC and pointing fingers on who has a defect and who doesn't (i.e. "The HTC 10 has a pink hue!" .. "Well so does Samsung!" even though majority don't see this so the ones with the issue most likely have a defect).

I received my HTC 10 a few days ago. It replaces a Galaxy S6. So far I am elated and over the moon. HTC spent time on the little things which makes the experience great. ...little things like less taps to make a phone call; less taps to answer a phone call; less taps to press buttons during a phone call; actually good ringtones; great sounding speakers; exquisite hardware design with a back that doesn't become a DNA smorgasbord; a well thought out/quicker than the rest fingerprint reader; a better than average theme engine and store; Blinkfeed (yes, I like it and am not afraid to admit it). The software performance on this phone is the fastest/smoothest I've ever experienced on a phone, outside of the iPhone 6S. The HTC 10 looks and feels like it's worth twice as much as my old Galaxy S6, which I can no longer stand to look at (making plans to get rid of it ASAP). I would buy the HTC 10 over and over again, if I had to.

That's not a defect though and it's not whatever the heck was happening with that other S7 Edge screen in the YouTube video you posted. I've seen that rainbow effect on almost every phone I've owned when it's at such an extreme angle (which in this case is only being highlighted to show what a screen SHOULDN'T DO) when I'm cleaning the screen and it turns on. Just check it out on my partner's Turbo:

With other devices the effect isn't as noticeable, plus it obviously shifts around as the phone does, and it's otherwise something pretty unnoticeable depending on the quality of the panel. However, what's not unnoticeable is how the phone display looks when the phone is sitting on a desk like this:

IMG_20160516_174047949.jpgIMG_20160516_174135563.jpg

There may a shift in color temp (which is expected off-angle) but notice how the S7 remains bright and still relatively white. If I had a HTC 10 in that exact position it'd look dim and pink. It's obviously just the difference between the LCD panel HTC used and the AMOLED one Samsung went with, but that difference was just too great for me to stomach, and for a $600-700 device, I think you can nitpick about stuff like that.
