HTC 10 vs. Samsung Galaxy S7

I think that's the biggest reason it's tough for me to recommend the 10 over the S7. The Edge isn't much bigger than the 10 at all. In fact, it's about the same width, it's thinner, and it's only marginally taller. In-hand, I would imagine the Edge is easier to hold given the curves/thinness. So even though it's relatively the same size, it boasts a larger battery that absolutely trumps the battery life on the 10 and a larger display. That's going to be the difference for a lot of people.

It's all about personal preference. :-) Personally I can't stand Samsung phones. The glossy all glass build makes them a fingerprint magnet and an accident waiting to happen. It doesn't seem like they could survive even the slightest fall. And touchwiz and the overly saturated screens aren't my thing either. I much prefer the feel and build quality of HTC phones. But that's just me. Obviously I'm i the minority because Sammy sells lots more phones than HTC. Best thing to do is get some hands on time with both phones and see which one you like better. I was ready to pull the trigger on an S6 last year until I went to Best Buy and played with it for a while. Ended up going with M8 instead.

True. I have the edge. But holding it can be a pain at times with those edges! I don't have big hands at all but find that my hands wrap around to the edges that causes the phone to do things I really didn't want it to do, or other taps are not responsive because part of my hand is already on the edge.
That's what bothered me about the One X, which was the first curved glass phone. I had to use a case or hold it very gingerly, as not to touch the edge. Glad to be done with that.

On AT&T, their recent update yesterday seems to have helped with that. T-Mobile got the same update not too long ago, too. It's hard not to make that happen, though.

Yes, the update helped, but it still happens. Also, I don't really use the edge functions either!

I think the S7 is just about the best looking phone out there (partially because I had an M7, so the 10's design isn't quite as exciting to me), but I'll definitely agree about the fingerprint thing; I just gave up caring after a couple days.

However, I've never understood the "this phone is more durable" argument; if durability is what one looks for, shouldn't we all be going towards the Samsung Active series, Droid Turbo whatever, etc.? If you drop your HTC 10, the thing's going to get a really ugly dent in it (I know, because I got one on my M7). I guess from the perspective of feeling the need to send the device in for service, sure, it's a step up from a potential crack in the S7's glass, but both phones are going to get messed up by a drop, so you're best off with a case either way.

I agree that TouchWiz sucks (okay, not really anymore, but I'd still rather have Sense), but I also think the S7 on "basic" display mode is pretty decent in the saturation dept. I'll have to do a side-by-side with my M7 to be sure, but it seems pretty decent (although, why get an AMOLED display if you're turning the saturation all the way down, right?).

Either way, I think the reason Samsung sells is because their marketing dept. is ON IT. They've come up with some amusing ads (come on, the Lil Wayne TV spots are pretty funny), and their phones are all over everything. And if you're tired of seeing the campaign, it's working; the average person will now walk into a phone store and say "hmm, might as well check out that new Samsung phone that they claim is awesome." Whereas they may just walk right by the HTC 10, since they won't know it exists (and it's easy to get overwhelmed by options in those stores).

Edit: Not trying to be argumentative, just giving my opinion; I like hearing people's perspectives on these phones.

I dont believe she really has it maxed out. Source: look at any other comparison, they're pretty close on brightness.

Someone asked her the same question on youtube comments and she answered both was set to manual max brightness.

The home button on HTC 10, is it pressable, or just like CRAPPY HTC M9+ (HTC M9 is a great device but M9+ sux) its sole purpose if finger prints?

It's not a button (can't be depressed). It is a fingerprint scanner that can also navigate to the home screen when touched.

As said above it acts as a capacitive button.

This is a concept that HTC should change. Just like Galaxy Series they should make it a home button that is pressable instead of taking extra space for just a swyppable finger print scanner

It isn't just a fingerprint scanner, it also acts as a capacitive home button. So you place your finger on it and it'll act like a home button when the phone is awake. So in that way it works the same as Samsung's way. The difference is one clicks and one doesn't, just a matter of preference. In fact in some ways Samsung is slightly inferior as it requires a click before a fingerprint will be registered. The htc's method just requires once press.

One of these days I need to hunt one of you guys down in real life and figure out how you people do this. I've owned a LOT of phones over these last few years and I've NEVER been able to get this 4-6 SOT that people quote as being "acceptable." Not with any phone, on any mobile network, from any manufacturer, on any amount of Wifi. Even looking at forums for the phone I CURRENTLY own (Nexus 6p) shows tons of people with SOT of 6 hours and I will get 3 on a REALLY good day. Granted, I've never had a day in my whole life that required that sort of longevity, but I feel like, with my usage, I should only be charging this thing weekly!

I average about 4-1/2 hours and sometimes 5 with my LG G4 and about 14 hours on time and usually have 20% battery remaining at the end of the day

I can get between 4-5 on the S7 Edge without really trying to save battery. It's one of those phones that battery just isn't a concern at all.

It's harder if you live in a weak signal area. Even if you turn on WiFi calling, a lot of phones still try to maintain the cellular connection, and a weak connection is harder to hold.

Good point here. Also can depend on apps. Facebook is a battery sucker.

Try the S7 exynos. If you don't get 5 hours of screen on time on your first charge I'll buy you 20 phones.

Probably because it doesn't work on any LTE network in the entire US. Sure way to save battery there.
Now that's one way to be ignorant. I have been using mine on LTE for the past 4 weeks. All you gotta do is some research, you cant t just make that assumption based on no knowledge.
