Htc evo 3d or motorola photon?

To you its a huge positive, for many others, not so much. Yes, the future is 3d, but that's a long way off, and I would be surprised if any pictures taken now with a first gen 3d smartphone will be any good in years to come. Honestly, 3d isn't doing so hot right now. The only 3d movies that make money are blockbusters. All the others show much higher profits from their 2d screenings. I don't know anyone who has, or wants a 3d tv. The Nintendo 3d handheld is not selling. 3d is a hyped up joke right now. The future? Probably. But certainly not the present.

The main reason that 3D has not taken off is because of the glasses. There has been plenty of talk about glasses free 3D coming out (like on the EVO 3D) so why spend around $1000 on a 3D TV that needs glasses then in a year they come out with the glasses free at a reasonalble price.
This phone takes the 2 - 2D images and blends them into a 3D image. In the future things may improve but we will have the 2 side by side images and hopefully see the improvements even on these early pictures. I think they already look great but I am sure the future will see even better looking pictures.

The glasses are definitely part of the reason. Some people, like myself, are just not that interested in 3d. Quite a few people actually. Let me know when they have giant sharks jumping out of billboards advertising Jaws 19

3D sports is where it's at and when this version of 3D becomes standard (No-Glasses Required) it will be common place. There is no reason to not take pictures in 3D now. To say the pictures taken now with 3D won't be any good in the future is absurd. They are good now lol. I'd love to hear you logic behind that one.

And I still disagree. I know absolutely no one that likes 3d. To say it is about to become commonplace is absurd. My logic behind the picture comment? Oh, I don't know, how do the pictures you took with your first camera phone look now? Like grainy crap I bet. There's the logic, and its pretty simple.

I agree 3d is the future, but we're not there yet. Its getting rammed down our throats, and other than a gung ho minority, most people couldn't care less about it. I'm glad you 3d users like your phone, but don't turn it into some huge thing. Its a gimmick, pure and simple. Some like it, some don't. The fact there were no limes and every store icwent into had a ton of 3d's in stock and hadn't sold that many just show you how little interest people have in it. If the 3d didn't have 3d, I would have had one on launch day. Instead, I'll wait

This phone has way more going for it than just 3D, but for some reason there are a lot of people out there that are writing off the whole phone because of this one feature that you don't even have to use if you don't want to.

Would you consider the HTC Sensation? Because even ignoring the 3D functions, the Evo is a better version of the Sensation. I can understand the hate for the 3D feature itself, but I do not understand the hate for the phone as a whole.

If they brought the sensation body and screen with the EVO guts, I would consider it. At this point I just don't see the 3d as an upgrade from the Nexus. I'll wait a couple more months and see what happens. By the time the get the 3d running optimally, there will be something better out

I didn't buy this phone for the 3D aspect. 1.2ghz dual core, Sense 3.0, and the.Beautiful qHD display is where its at on this thing. And the 2D pictures and video are amazing. The way this plays games and handles muti tasking is beast. People make it seem like 3D is the only feature on this phone.

I had to choose between the Evo 3d and the Nexus S 4g and ended up choosing the Nexus. One of the reasons that the decision was so hard was because I really liked the Evo 3d's dual core - and Sense 3.0 was not too bad either.

In the end, Android OS does not really take advantage of dual core processors (which seems why so many reviews have the Nexus loading web pages and other things faster) and I am not a big phone gamer so, there is little benefit of a dual core right now for me - not to mention that the Nexus easily goes longer than a day without charging for me. Meanwhile, the Nexus is already running a more advanced version of Android OS than the Evo which just came out. I am not sure when ICS will come out, but it will likely be more than 6 months and by the time the Evo, with Sense 3.O updates to ICS, I will either have a new phone or be looking for a new phone.

In regards to features, 3d v. NFC, it is still early, but, NFC looks like the more useful feature - at least for me because the 3d effect honestly hurts. I have read posts here about 3d being the future - maybe, maybe not. I cannot imagine a feature which hurts so many people - many have complained of pain/discomfort as a result of using the 3d feature - become the future. Nevertheless, the 3d may become the future, if it is both glasses free and pain free which it is not right now. In regards to NFC chip, I plan on buying some chips and programming them so that whenever I leave the house, my wifi will automatically turn off or whenever I enter my car, the Bluetooth will automatically turn on, etc - without having to manually adjust my phone. So, this at least looks useful, though I cannot say for sure until I see how (if at all) effective it is, than an uncomfortable, at best, 3d option.

To the original poster, if you were NOT planning on rooting your phone, than I would have likely recommended the Evo because Sense is so much better than Motoblur or whatever they want to call it (I had an Evo 4g and Sense UI is nice). However, since you plan on rooting your phone, I would recommend the Photon, it has a better camera and an HDMI port (I believe), but most importantly, it is not burdened with a virtually useless 3d option.

maybe my 2 cents as an outsider would add some useful insights.

Coming from a palm pre and I am finally wanting an upgrade. I never considered an android device before, I've seen android as too insecure. The Photon has hardware encryption which solves that issue with me and I am starting to travel more so the gsm capabilities are much needed.

The Evo 3d is perfectly good, the 3d is a nice addition, but it's not that big of a deal for me.

Just to add to what ragnarokx posted: debates are encouraged in the forums as long as long as they don't cross the line into personal attacks or an argument where 2 people are just repeating the same things over and over again at each other. When a thread goes this direction it ends up turning off other members or discourages new members from participating which is unacceptable.

I'm going to edit and undelete a few of the posts that didn't meet the above criteria, but please keep what I've said in mind moving forward.

I'm not sure why anyone would think 3D is a burden. If you don't like it, turn it off. Everything else on the phone is superior in every way. Better processor, better screen, HTC build quality (though Moto diefinitely builds a nice phone).

Dual core phones are just now starting to hit the mainstream. In another couple months more and more apps will be supporting dual core. As 3D becomes more common, more apps will include it as an option. It makes no sense to say that NEW features that are gaining support are a hindrance. NOT HAVING those features is a hindrance.

Which part do you not consider an upgrade? The better processor, the better screen, or the SD card support? The Nexus has AOSP going for it. It would have been a stellar had it been released 6 months earlier, instead there were already better phones out when the Nexus S made it's debut.

Question for the "I'm passing on the new EVO because of 3D capabilities" crowd. If you went to a car dealership and found a car with features you like, in a color you like and at a price you like, would u get up and walk out because it had a moonroof? Of course not, that would be asinine. A moonroof is something nice to have, that gets used every so often. Doesn't make or break the car as a whole. That is what the 3D capabilities on this device are.

Im not saying everyone should get an EVO 3D. I have one and I love it, but the beauty of Android is there are plenty of devices to choose from. I just don't understand the zealots who knock the device as a whole because of a bonus feature. They conveniently leave out the more ram, rom, processing power, better battery life etc. If the phone only had a 3D camera I'd understand the anger, but it has a very capable 2D camera as well. It can do everything the other dual core beasts on the horizon can.

It appears some Sensation owners are obsessed with posting negative in EVO 3D sub-forums.

Why?
hmm either they have no life or their not happy with Sammy & want to upgrade 3D style but having a hard time doing so....maybe lack of funds , Mom wont let me etc

Its not just the 3d. I've said in a past post that I'm not a fan of HTC build quality on their plastic sprint phones. The other thing is performance wise, there was nothing stellar about this phone. On paper the specs look great. Performance wise it wasn't enough to make me jump on it. Its kind of lile seeong a car with 600hp and a car with 300hp that have the same 0-60 and quarter mile times and handle and brake aboit the same. Im not going to take the 600hp onebjust because its new and has more power. The power under the hood doesnt matter if it still works at the same speed.

Its a great phone, never said it wasn't, it just doesn't do enough to make me pic it up. And, it has nothing to so with money, as someone just posted. I bought my Nexus off contract, cash. I didn't want to use my upgrade on the 3d. I'm also a fan of vanilla Android, so I think I'm gonna hold out and see what happens with the next Nexus. My opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

OK so the question to you,
Why do you keep posting the same thing over & over again downing device?
Don't you have better things to do with your time?

Im not trying to give you hard time but man just about all your post around here are beat ups.

Hmm, I respectfully disagree; the 3d option is not akin to a moonroof, because moonroofs are an obvious plus and cause no pain. Rather, 3d is more like an unfortunate seat massager that is uncomfortable, or actually painful, and which drains the gas tank when in use. Moreover, one cannot be sure that 3d option has no effect, maybe without the 3d, the phone would be cooler to the touch or maybe they could have included an HDMI port or perhaps battery life could be better utilized, or whatever.

I can only speak for myself, but 3d was a deal-breaker for me for it really hurt my eyes - if HTC would have simply built upon the Evo 4g (which I really liked), I would have likely picked up the Evo.

I was asked questions and I responded to them. I said its a great device, how is that beating it up. I point out what I don't like about it. Its a critique. The reason i repeated it is because I know a lot of posts were deleted and since the questions were asked directly to me I answered them with my opinion. I was never giving anybody any hassle until people started attacking me for providing my opinion. I guess everyone just wants to hear the good? Like I said, my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.
