Htc evo 3d or motorola photon?

I was asked questions and I responded to them. I said its a great device, how is that beating it up. I point out what I don't like about it. Its a critique. The reason i repeated it is because I know a lot of posts were deleted and since the questions were asked directly to me I answered them with my opinion. I was never giving anybody any hassle until people started attacking me for providing my opinion. I guess everyone just wants to hear the good? Like I said, my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

The reason your getting jumped on is because your in 3D forum pouncing on 3D device.
Your post history clearly shows it.
If I went into nex sub forum posting over & over how 'Nex plastic toy build quality bla bla would you think that's ok?
I hope not ,That sort of chat brings down positive forum vibe not cool.

Anyway do as you will , I hope 3D users doesn't pull such negative in Nex forum.
It would be childish!

THe OP asked a question in the 3d forum. He's getting feedback from everybody that has one and loves it. I figured he could use the opinion of someone who looked into one that didn't buy it, and why. I didn't come in here and pounce on it, I came in and gave my opinion and got pounced on and responded. I should have bit my tongue in response to some of the postas directed at me but didn't. I didn't come in here and start a thread bashing the 3d. There is a big difference there.

Like I said, if you're happy with your device, great, but everyone was putting a nice sugary coating on it and I figured my opinion and some other facts would balance out the conversation. Next time I'll just post links to all the discussions in the forums from people having problems and not give any opinion whatsoever.

And, to be fair, you're the one responding with "maybe they don't have the funds/mommy won't let them/don't you have better things to do with your time." I have offered nothing but opinion on the phone until attacked. Others who posted the same opinion haven't been given the same amount of grief because they offered their opinion and left. I'm just defending mine.

Sorry all, I was just trying to have a discussion and I was trying to defend my points. Sorry if I offended anyone in the course of this discussion. I'm done with this topic unless I want to get a whole bunch of infractions.

Well all 3D owners in this forum thank you for un-sugarcoating letting us know how much better you think nexus is.

After lots of research, I'm going with the Motorola Photon.

Mostly for GSM, the NVIDIA Tegra2, the 16gigs of onboard storage, as well as a full 1 gig of ram, and the option of connecting to the HD docking station which includes a wireless remote, keyboard and mouse and 3 usb ports , and the Vehicle Navigation Dock for in-car turn by turn navigation and voice dialing.

I won't miss the 3D feature the EVO offers.

i think there needs to be an age limit in the forums, say 21... Im an adult would rather talk with them!

SARAH PALIN 2012

That "SARAH PALIN 2012" signature at the end is hilarious partially because she is a joke. Hiho! Hahahaha

Anyways,
I dunno how you guys are getting 12 hours battery life, i'm struggling to get 8 out of mine and that's with 3 hours of the phone being on idle and 5 hours with 4g on. actually that is pretty good battery life for 4g but after recharging it immediately afterwards, i get only 4 hours (battery level drops 40% on my 40min commute home. I'm going to try out the photon.

Hmm, I respectfully disagree; the 3d option is not akin to a moonroof, because moonroofs are an obvious plus and cause no pain. Rather, 3d is more like an unfortunate seat massager that is uncomfortable, or actually painful, and which drains the gas tank when in use. Moreover, one cannot be sure that 3d option has no effect, maybe without the 3d, the phone would be cooler to the touch or maybe they could have included an HDMI port or perhaps battery life could be better utilized, or whatever.

I can only speak for myself, but 3d was a deal-breaker for me for it really hurt my eyes - if HTC would have simply built upon the Evo 4g (which I really liked), I would have likely picked up the Evo.
Heated and massaged seats will cost more whereas moonroofs are pretty standard nowadays. Regardless, I don't see a moonroof as a plus or minus really, it neither adds to or subtracts from the overall package. It wouldn't be anyone's determining factor in purchasing or not purchasing a vehicle. It's a bonus, plain and simple. If you have it, great. And if you don't, its not even an afterthought. I have a moonroof on my car actually, and have used it quite sporadically.

As far as your assertion that the phone is hot to the touch, I don't know where that's coming from. And the phone does HDMI out, it just does it through the USB port. Battery life is markedly better than the original. I have both, so I know.

Viewing 3D content does take some getting used to, although it didn't make my eyes hurt or give me a headache. You just have to find the sweet spot for your eyes. Once you do, I think you'd be pretty impressed with the added depth of 3D pix and vids.

If HTC came to u after the original EVO was out and asked what u wanted to see in the next one, I'm sure you would want a faster and more efficient processor, better battery life, a better display, probably more rom and ram, improvements to the sense UI etc. So please explain to me how with all of this, this phone is not an improvement. U overlook all the enhancements and improvements to focus on probably the least used part of the device. It makes no sense.

There is no perfect device, but the things that make a smartphone a smartphone, namely speed, power and the ability to do many things at once have all been improved with this device. Yet the EVO 3D detractors always conveniently manage to exclude those things in their assessments.

4G is a known battery hog. I get full bars here in NYC but only really use it when surfing, streaming music or movies or downloading something big. Otherwise I stay on 3G. I'm a pretty heavy user and average about 10hrs between being full and when the time to recharge msg pops up. And then the power saver kicks in and squeezes out about another hour. Love that feature, one of my favorite additions in sense 3.0

I guess everyone is different and it seems you are missing the point in the useless/painful feature debate. A moonroof is a nice feature, but 3d is not like a moonroof. I highly doubt that painful 3d displays will be the wave of the future and become standard. Your argument is that 3d is not painful if, and that is a big if, you somehow get to a painless sweetspot. What is the point of that? Even if you get lucky enough to find the so-called sweet spot, who will stay absolutely still and hold their phone absolutely still while trying to use it? The 3d effect is kind of cool, but not worth the pain it causes.

Yes, if HTC asked for my input, I would've said yes to all the improvements, such as the dual core, but not to the painful 3d shtik. Again, compound this to the fact that Android OS is not yet optimized for dual core (and I am not a phone gamer) and the fact that when ICS does come out, the Evo 3d will still have to wait for an update while HTC works on it - even now the Evo 3d is running an older OS than the Nexus and the Evo came out after the Nexus. Thus, it is not so much that I am ignoring the Evo's strength, namely power, it is simply that I am putting it in proper context. Add to the fact, that HTC decided to add an arguably painful feature, instead something with more promise, such as an NFC chip for example, the Evo was not for me - to be fair, it was a hard choice.

3D is a feature you have the OPTION of using. No where does it state that it enhances the phone. The only need for 3D is the Green Hornet movie that comes with the phone. That's it. You can use this phone every day without ever needing to take a 3D picture/video.

Yes, but it is a wasted and painful feature.

Yes, but it is a wasted and painful feature.

How is it wasted? Does it cost you money? Does it eat all your food? Does it cause global warming? Does it cause poor gas mileage? Has it tried to sleep with your wife? Please explain. The phone costs the same with or without 3D. Don't use it if you don't like it. It has the same specs with or without 3D. Take away the 3D and what do you have? A dual core superphone. You doods are just jealous.

It is wasted in two ways; real and potential. In a real way, the 3d feature is a waste for it is wasting space that could have been used for something more useful. For example, instead of dual 5 mp cameras that takes OK, but not great 2d pictures, the phone could of had one higher resolution camera that produced much better pics. Or, instead of two cameras, it could of had NFC capabilities, which seems a heck of a lot more useful than painful 3d capabilities. Etc.

Potentially speaking, I am not sure how the phone is wired, but the wiring, or screen, requirements of 3d may have an effect on the phone in the long run. Or the 3d effect may potentially have a negative effect on the user.

Yep, or it could have been thinner. Maybe HTC could have squeezed it into one of this nice aluminum bodies I've been waiting for.

Just give up bro, no matter how many good points you make, or how much sense you make, you will still be wrong here. They need everyone to think their device is the best of the best. Anyone who doesn't think so is just stupid in their eyes.

Painful? That's a tad bit much don't u think? I've shown 3D content to quite a few people and no one has said "omg turn it off, its burning my retinas!"

The screen and wiring may have a potentially negative effect on users? Really? So, being that are no actual negatives to speak of (thoughts on having 3D capability, what u would've preferred included instead, body type preferences etc are opinions not facts) you're just going to invent some? Wow, hilarious.

No, the issue is the detractors ignore the qhd display, faster, more powerful and efficent dual core processor, better battery life and more polished and intuitive sense UI. They bypass the improvements and focus on an option. They act as though this option, let me say it again, OPTION somehow takes away from the device.

In terms of what we've all come to expect from smartphones, the new EVO doesn't disappoint. As I'm typing this, I'm on 4G downloading two movies in the background one 636MB, the other 835MB. Its been about 11 minutes and the downloads are 67% complete. I'm also listening to music, GPS is on, my 3 email accounts are syncing every 15 mins and I've left the browser to go into the market and also play a couple turns of words with friends. With all this going on, I haven't had any freezing or force closes. Apps and menus still open as quickly and smoothly as the did on launch day. Someone please explain to me how the 3D capability is holding this device back. Seems like most of the people knocking this device haven't used it. Im sure Their tunes would change if they did.

No, the issue is that the people defending the device are also focusing on 3d, and ignoring every other thing said about the phone. Look at my other posts,I explain my thoughts on the phone quite clearly. The 3d is one small part of why I didn't get the phone. There are plenty of other reasons. ANd I'll say it again so I don't get jumped on, I think it's a great phone, it just isn't quite the "show stopper" I was hoping for

U seem to have a more well thought out argument as to why you wouldn't get this phone than most who just regurgitate the "3D is a gimmick" line. I've enjoyed the debate. I respect your opinion eventhough I still feel you give too much weight to the 3D aspect, performance is what makes this phone a solid choice in my book. I use the 3D camera about as much as I use the microphone button in the messaging app to dictate text messages, very sporadically. Both are nice functions to have, but are afterthoughts in day to day use. 3D is the last thing I discuss when asked about the phone, because I feel it has much more going for it than that.

The great thing about Android is the variety of devices we have to choose from, so everyone can get a device that's perfect for them. I'm just curious as to what constitutes a show stopper in your book. The new crop of top tier phones are going to be fast, powerful, dual core, hi Res display devices like the new EVO. While each will do some things a lil better or worse than the others, the specs and performance will be pretty much the same across the board. I dont see how anyone could make a bad choice when choosing between the Sensation, EVO 3D, photon, galaxy s II, bionic and whatever other superphones are upcoming. Next year we might be looking at 2.0ghz, quad core, hi res, completely button free, 4.5 - 5in displays with 32gigs onboard storage standard plus a 32gig SD card installed. But as of now,hi end smartphones are basically 1.2ghz,qhd or amoled, and 4.0 - 4.5in. So what would you need in order to label a current smartphone a show stopper?

I agree with your whole comment. I think the problem is people were wowed over the last 2 years at all the things these new device's can do. It was all pretty new and exciting. That's pretty much over now for the most part. The "wow "factor is gone and it seems that some people are still searching for that same "wow " as there first or second device. I know for me that won't happen again until let's say I can project a hologram from my device, lol.
