As has been pointed out many times, if your phone is SOFF (ie you've done something like unrevoked forever) all you need to do is to flash a custom recovery (like clockwork mod) and then load/flash root.

I am a complete noob to all this where can I find step by step instructions on how to do this as Tom manager isn't helping to load clockwork ?

Here is a link for Clockworkmod 3.0.0.5. Put it on your sd card and then go into your bootloader. Do this by powering off. Once off hold volume down + power botton until your white screen pops up.

Don't do anything as it will scan for the PC36IMG. Select Yes and then a status bar on the right will show. That is about it. Very easy to do.

Once you have the recovery done here is a flashable Superuser v2.3.6.3.

Tell me how do I flash the super user? I am super new to this!

Reboot into recovery, install from SD card, browse to the location you saved the file to flash, and select it. Once it's done flashing, reboot and enjoy.

I recommend Deck's GB ROM 1.2. Linked in my signature.
You will learn a lot there and by searching this forum, and XDA-Developers forums.

Have fun!

@tazman1963 A side note. Make a file and name it clockworkmod and put the PC36IMG inside the folder so the next time you go to your bootloader it won't ask you if you want to install it again. Or just take it off your phone and store it on your computer. That way you will still have it just in case your g/f does something like that again. :)

I hate to be a pain but can you give me more specific step by step instructions so I may print it and follow it?

The whole process or the superuser set or ...?

Re: HTC EVO 4G Newest sprint update dated 6/30/11

Here is the whole thing

This is only if you have S-OFF. This not a root method.

Recovery
1. Download the CWM file from the link. When it downloads it should be named PC36IMG.zip. If not then name it exactly that. 2. Place the PC36IMG.zip on your sdcard 3. Go to your bootloader. How? Power off your phone. When off hold Volume Down + Power at the same time. When your white screen with 3 Androids pops up let go. 4. Let it scan. There will be a few seconds of a delay for the scan. When it finds it select Yes. 5. Reboot Now you got a recovery. Make a folder for this or put it on your computer and delect from your sd card. This will keep the phone from asking you if you want to update or not.

Applying Superuser
1. Go to your bootloader and select Recovery 2. A wipe shouldn't be needed, but you can if you want. Cache, then Advance -> Dalvik Cache. Go back to main menu 3. Install zip from sd card 4. Choose zip from sd card 5. Find the superuser file and select it.

That should do it
