Re: HTC EVO 4G Newest sprint update dated 6/30/11

Smokecrawler,

We have ROOT ACCESS once again and I owe it all to you! I will never, ever stop singing your praises, you are the God I was meant to run into........you, igotsanevo, and camelguy are all f***ing king supernova gods of the world and I stand and applaud each one of you..........now if you could just tell me what you think of kingsmod and which rom or rom should I try? And oh yeah.........how to do it? Lol! I will have this all down one day!

lol I like how you have me before igotsanevo4g :p But honestly I learned a lot from him and still ask him questions when I can't figure something out.

As for the roms, I haven't used a Sense rom in a long time. I did flash Synergy and another rom that had Sense 2.1 with 3.0 elements just to see what it was like. They seemed ok. I like AOSP roms better. I have been using CM7 and started with Vaelpak4. CM7 has a lot of support because it is very popular and has been out for a while now. Vealapk4 is still in a "preview" stage but VERY stable. Just missing some normal things as a lot of AOSP roms have. Deck's seems to be very popular but never tried it. So the two I use would be my choice of recommendation but the final say is up to you. Best thing is to try them out so you know which one you like best.

As to how to back your current rom up and flash a new rom you can check out the link in my signature on how to do those. It is done by me with no edits so it gives a better understanding how long it takes.

One thing I didn't bother with is showing how to backup your apps + data, texts if you don't use google voice, and others. You can use Titanium backup or My Backup (Root). One thing with Titanium is to not back up system apps + data. That can cause a bootloop when switching different roms.

I'm sure glad you told me about titanium as I backed up everything and that coulda sucked heavily! Again I'll be coming to you with a lot more questions in the very near future, so stay tuned, more will follow!

Ps:girlfriend is no longer allowed to touch my phone! Lol

Yeah man, if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask. This is an excellent place for learning.

lol keep her away!

I'm glad the wife thinks to use mine she needs a crash course in rocket science. She hates when she needs to use my phone. She has a Blackberry, so that explains it all. haha :p

So now that my phone's rooted again and running gingerbread evo deck asop I've notice battery life has way improved but 3g disappeared several times, anyone know why? Just curious?

Re: HTC EVO 4G Newest sprint update dated 6/30/11

Did you not have 3G at all or did it go to 1x?

On stock sense, it will not show if you go into 1X, it will just keep on showing 3G.

Just another little rooting perk ;)

If your talking about 3G just not connecting, then I have the same issue. I believe my issue stems from the latest radio update I flashed and that funky PRL Sprint pushed a little while back. Have you flashed the new radios?

Believe it or not, this is by far one of my favorite features of AOSP. :-D

I agree with ya on that. I like knowing why the speeds are slow instead of guessing.

Well it doesn't show 1g so I assome since I can't connect to anything internet related, it just disappeared! As far as radio updates I have the newest ones I downloaded with my rooted gingerbread!

Re: HTC EVO 4G Newest sprint update dated 6/30/11

Looks like you are having some data issues then. Could be on Sprints end. I flashed the new radios when they first came out and so far I haven't ran into that problem.

As for the radios I noticed people say they have better speeds, worse speeds, and no improvement. I haven't notice a thing and I haven't notice any cell deference either.

How do I find the newest radios and how do I check them to make sure?

Here are the latest radios (plus others) [ Radios ][ 7-4 ] All EVO Radio, WiMAX, PRI, NV & HBoot versions - xda-developers.

To see what you have go to settings -> about phone-> and look at your baseband version. That will show what radio version you have.

Sorry about the slow responses lately guys, been having some family issues. Anyway...just wanted to add a little side note. Make sure to NOT flash any of the new HBoot
I had actually asked about that when the OTA came out and was informed to stay away from it unless I actually was going to install the new engineering version for development purposes. Just best to keep your current HBoot version. :-)

Good looking out. I forgot to mention that.

It looks like I already have the updated version of the radios!

If your data/cell service was better on the "old" version you can flash those. Just stay away from the hboots! ;) Remembered that time CaMelGuY ;) lol
