htc Evo Stock 2.2 vs Evo rooted with custom ROM and fps unlocked...

I'm stock rooted right now 2.2. I want to add a kernel. What's the difference between Kings and Netarchy's kernel? All I want is the FPS cap off, and overclocking ability. Cheers!

Whats the difference between CM6 and Vaelpak 2.0 ?

If I read correctly I am assuming that Vaelpak gives access to 4g which CM6 doesnt. Are there any other difference betweent he 2 ?

If there aren't then why is CM6 so highly rated and Vaelpak going under the radar? Just wondering. Thanks!

They're actually VERY different. CM6 is based off AOSP aka Vanilla Android. Basically what you see in the Nexus 1. VaelPak is based off HTC Sense. The latest 2.0 version is based off the latest version of HTC Sense actually. But, the VaelPak ROM has a lot of Sense stuff and all of Sprint stuff removed. It's close to being AOSP without actually being AOSP. The two benefits to going VaelPak in my opinion is one you have working 4g and you also have working HDMI. I've heard that 4G is being worked on with CM BUT it's being written from scratch. I'm sure there will be plenty of bugs at first whereas VaelPak is based off htc Sense so it works exactly how it's supposed to work... Also the HDMI works on VaelPak whereas it doesn't on CM. If you care about those two things then i say go VaelPak. I've heard of CM being very very stable with no problems, but I've also heard plenty of people, including my personal experience, that had bugs, force closes, things not working and generally not stable. From what I've seen with VaelPak in the week + I've been using it, it's extremely stable and people rarely have issues. It really comes down to what you're looking for. Do you want a Sense based ROM or a AOSP based ROM. There are differences. I'm VaelPak all the way personally. 10 days and counting, still only one force close and that was on the first day...

Edit: VaelPak isn't quite under the radar like you think. He's had well over 3000 downloads of his rom.

Noooo dont do it! You don't have to go to 1.4, you have to download the 2.0 with the Kings BFS8 kernel. There's two versions of 2.0, one with the stock kernel and the other wide the Kings BFS8 kernel. Download it here:

Awesome videos. Thanks for all the work.

I've been researching ROM's to decided which one I want to use. CM is out (most likely) because I use 4g so I'd like to have it.

Does 4g work in the the VaelPack 2.0 using the BFS8 (non stock) kernel ROM? I browsed around the thread and I'm reading mixed things. Some say it's acting up but it might be them.

4G works for me perfect. I'm using 2.0 w/BFS8. You sure you're reading 4g issues with 2.0 and maybe not one of the older versions? I just text 7 of my other friends that has this rom that's in a 4g area and they all just text me back saying it's working for them. I know he has a few hundred downloads of 2.0 so I'd say if only a handful of people are having issues it's not something to worry about.

I just saw this post in the 2.0 thread so I wasn't sure:

xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM] VaelPak v2.0 (9/6/10) - NonSense - [HTC#7][BFS][OC][UV][FPSU] - 3.28.651.1 OTA

Glad to hear it's working well. Most likely it's just something the user is doing and not the ROM. It's looking like this will be the next ROM I try. Right now it's a toss up between this and Fresh.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

hey thanks alot for the help. Currently I am running on OTA froyo. I am rooting shortly. im waiting to see if the unrevoked one click root that's about to come out looks good so I don't need to down grade. I have decided to go with vaelpak. :) At the moment im using launcher pro. so that would work fine with vaelpak? which launcher are you using?

Launcher Pro comes with Vaelpak. Up until 2.0 that and the aosp were the only launchers available. The stock htc launcher is gone. 2.0 comes with adw launcher too now. Personally I like Launcher Pro better but I think launchers are 100% personal preference. Adw is great, I just prefer launcher pro. You can backup you launcher pro home screens and restore it once you go to Vaelpak too. It'll make the transition much easier

Oh ok great thanks for the help.your videos definitely made me want to root. Does it speed up the web browsers by any chance(not the connection). I have no idea what web browser to use with froyo... I'm using stock for flash and opera for browsing now

Well Vaelpak 2.0 has the latest Flash update that recently came out for the Nexus 1. I was watching a friends live streaming broadcast for his online talk show for an hour on Dolphin HD with no problems. Scrolling and pinch to zoom is much faster and smoother. Things seem to load faster but can't say for sure. Forgot the browser speeds from when I was stock. I'm glad I can help! =D

You've been a huge help in this forum and I'm now officially hooked on the rom. Dumb question though. Can I get the HTC clock and weather widget back. It didn't look like it was in anyy of the saved apk files on the sd card. I'm a little dumb in that I like the animated weather of that one.

No problem dude. Glad I can help! Unfortunately all htc widgets aren't available. You ever consider getting Beautiful widgets? I've been using it since I was still on 2.1. I love it. If you dont want to go that route, just hit up VaelPak the developer and he'll be able to send you an app apk that's exactly like the htc clock/weather widget.

Hi Jerz, since i saw you post about this ROM, i went ahead and root my phone and flash with VaelPak BFS8, i flash ROM with this the ROM you said here, but i still cant get setpcu to have access to root and there other program like SHOOTME that also giving me the error that my phone is not root, what can i do to fix this issue? Thank you

I have this ROM installed but I am stuck at the VaekPak screen when I turn my Evo on. How long should it take to turn the phone on? Thanks , great thread.

I love overclocking computers -- tweaking the FSB, voltages, timings, multipliers, and running tons of benchmarks and stress tests. But for some reason, I'm scared of rooting my Evo. Haha! I need a Preware app for Android.

Dude thank you!!! All I needed to do was wipe...now I need to have some fun with this..Thanks!
