HTC EVO View 4G update log? Root access?

Hi,

So I just bought my HTC EVO View 4G on eBay, and it just came in. Now, I am interested in rooting at some point in the future, mainly because I'd like run ICS on it, and it doesn't seem like Sprint will be doing that any time soon. Either way, I'd like to be able to root regardless. Now, since I just got my View, it is still running the out of the box version of Gingerbread, with no updates at all. I remember when it first came out, along with the Evo 3D, that there were some HTC/Sprint updates that disabled root access, or that caused some problems for people interested in rooting, such as the most recent Honeycomb update for it. So my question is, is it safe to install all the previous updates and make it to Honeycomb without losing the ability to root? I know they are working on a safe honeycomb update for rooted people....but is there anything I should be aware of BEFORE I reach that HC update?

Also, I know it is for another thread, but how exactly does one go about rooting the View? What is the most recent method, etc...

Well I am in the same boat as you, my Evo View will be here in a day or two. There are things you need to do in advance as a precaution. Check out this section for threads on how to do the upgrade, achieve Root with HC, etc.. Also bear in mind that ICS is not available for the Evo View or HTC Flyer and I have little confidence in HTC or Sprint offering it. The development community will do what it can and that has always been the best part about being an Android user.

Great for HTC and Sprint one good device been declared obsolete only after been 3 months in my hands. That says a lot of what the customers are recognized by this big companies. The device is "obsolete" but my two year contract is up to date. But Sprint I'll pay the penalties of early termination and erase you as a respected company and do business with the ones that value their customers. I also have a 6 months old evo 4g, the same with this device. By the way I'm systems engineer and technology collaborator for the Latin community on TV, so this experience along with a lot more will be broadcasted very soon. Goodbye HTC and Sprint.
