Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

I received the update automatically on my Inspire when it first came out. My daughter's inspire was another story. Finally got around to calling Tech support today and they had no clue what I was talking about and kept telling me I had to call HTC. I told him he was wrong and that this needed AT&T to correct. I then went online and asked via chat and the rep that worked with me online was able to send it immediately. I asked for help with receiving the OTA update for 3rd Party/Unknown Sources Applications.

And still... no luck. The chat agent referred me to the PMC department which I have tried repeatedly. I don't know what else they can do. Can that many people be doing it wrong?
 
Again, nothing. I was told to go to HTC yet again. In fact, they asked me what my software version was. So I asked, "Software version, or ANDROID version?". He replied "Software". I told him. He then replied that I needed to be on Android 2.2 or higher. Really? Can I please get someone who knows what the eff they're doing?

Man that sucks. Did you specifically ask for the OTA update for 3rd Party/Unknown Sources Applications? The rep that handled my online chat session was VERY knowledgeable and able to push it to my daughter's phone. She asked for the IMEI, the mobile number and had me power the phone off. She pushed it through, had me turn it back on and voila, it was there.

I would keep trying because you will eventually get someone that knows what they are doing with this.

The issue related to this chat while dealt with in a very quick professional manner by Trevor H should have been resolved by ATT with a software update long ago. I can only imagine how much time your representatives must be wasting on this one issue when their time could be much more efficiently used elsewhere.

I did restart, but it is still not there. We'll see after 48 hours if, courtesy of MaBell's children, I end up with nothing but a long white beard like half the people on this thread.
 
Use you phone to check for an update just to see if the server in your area is available. If it isn't you won't get the update. I learned this since the chicago server is down.

Yes, my server here in Florida appears to have been down for over 24 hours now. How long has it been out in chicago? Hard to believe their server downtime would be measured in days and not hours.
 
How can you tell if the server is down? I checked for updates and it told me my phone was up to date. Does that mean the server here is working?

Try to access any of the options using your MyAtt app. Mine times out with a service temporarily unavailable message for every one of the four options.
 
Yeah, still no dice. They just keep referring me to HTC, which in turn sends me back to ATT. There must be a server outage or something. Sad. I really want the Amazon app store and I am too lazy to root :p
 
Update to previous post:
Two of the four phones on my acct have received the push update in less than 8 hrs. Sadly, mine is not one of them. The two phones that have been updated are 120 miles away from the two that have not. This grasshopper is not full of patience.
 
Yeah, I guess if I drove a couple hours south, I'd probably be in a spot to receive the update. I do want the update, but if they don't fix the local towers, it may be a few more months :(
 
took me a few tries to get this update.
first i tried the quick fix which required me to go into application settings and erase data from the customization settings provider. but that one broke MMS which made me hard reset my phone :(
then i called AT&T to ask if they could manually push the update to my phone. after almost an hour on the phone being bounced between many different representatives, i could not get them to understand what i was talking about.
so my final resort was using the online chat feature on AT&Ts website. all i needed to do was as them to push the Third Party Application update to my phone. and they did. took less than 5 minutes. and i am now able to install Third party applications on my phone. :D
 
i just saw today i randomly have the unknown sources box unchecked. i didnt get an update or any notice. sweet
 
Hello everyone. My name is Alan. I have great news if you guys want the sideload update from ATT and didn't get it. It's very simple. Call ATT (611) and ask to speak to someone in the PMC dept. When connected to them ask them to send you the sideload update from the Xdm link. They will send it while u r on the phone. Then go to the menu- settings-applications and put a check next to unknown sources and then u r ready to sideload apps! It's that easy. Took about 10 min. Couldn't have been any easier.
It worked for me.
 
Took about two hours for sideload push to reach two of the four devices I requested push for on chat. after 72 hours of waiting for remaining two phones to be updated, had to do a second chat and finally just got push today after another 24 hours.

I was on the chat just before and just as I think all is good and the rep pushed the update for me she asks, " what data plan do you have? It seems that you don't have any connected". I do not lol. I have wifi at home and at work so I don't need the data. She asks me which plan I want and I saw let me think about it and call At&t tomorrow. Looks like I will need to root my inspire in order to get sideloading as they will not let me escape without getting a data plan!:mad::mad::mad:
