I asked for the unknown sources update to be pushed to my inspire. this is the rest of the chat:
Jasmin McClarity: I will be more than happy to assist you with your upgrade concerns.
Mr Android: thanks,
Jasmin McClarity: Is this for mobile number 555-555-5555?
Mr Android: yes
Jasmin McClarity: In order for me to access your account, I will need for you to verify the last 4 digits of your social security number please.
Mr Android: 1234
Jasmin McClarity: Thank you for that information.
Jasmin McClarity: I will send you the link to the manufacturer HTC website so that you can see what updates are available for your device.
Mr Android: htc said that the update should be pushed by att
Jasmin McClarity: What is this update called?
Mr Android: it is an update that will allow my phone to install 3rd party apps, such as the amazon app store. att blocked this access on the phone to begin with, so the update should also come from att.
Jasmin McClarity: please allow me 2-3 minutes to check this for you.
Jasmin McClarity: Unfortunately, I am not able to find any information on this. I apologize.
Mr Android: hmmm....
Jasmin McClarity: If you can find out the name of this update, it may be easier to locate information about it.
Mr Android: people online say that the PMC dept knows about the update, and have been pushing it to their phones.
Mr Android: am i speaking with the pmc dept?
Jasmin McClarity: This is the technical support department.
Mr Android: apparently att uses your XDM tool to push the update. do you have access to that tool to push the update to my phone?
Jasmin McClarity: Unfortunately, I do not have access to that however, I could send you a link if I could locate the actual update.
Mr Android: all i know is that people have been asking for the '3rd party apps' update. or the 'unknown sources' update.
Mr Android: it should be an OTA update.
Mr Android: or the 'sideloading apps' update
Jasmin McClarity: The sideloading update allows you to transfer music. I can locate information on this update.
Mr Android: thanks.
Jasmin McClarity: Connect your HTC Inspire 4G (PD98120) to a computer via the included Micro USB cable.
Jasmin McClarity: Select "Disk drive", and then tap Done.
Jasmin McClarity: On your PC, access "My Computer", and then double click Removable disk.
Jasmin McClarity: Open a new "My Computer" window, and then navigate to the desired media files.
Jasmin McClarity: Drag and drop the desired media files or folders to the device window.
Mr Android: thank you for looking that information up, but this does not sound like the process that anyone else went through.
Mr Android: are you tier 2 support?
Jasmin McClarity: This is actually the only sideloading information that we have.
Jasmin McClarity: Would you like for me to provide you with a telephone number to contact customer service and they can transfer you to technical support.
Mr Android: not really.
Mr Android: i was hoping i could get the ota update by using tech chat as others have.
Mr Android: could you transfer me to someone that has access to the XDM Tool?
Jasmin McClarity: I am getting a supervisor who has access to this to send it through to you.
Jasmin McClarity: Please allow me 2-3 minutes for this.
Mr Android: thanks!
Jasmin McClarity: This is still being worked on for you.
Jasmin McClarity: Thank you for your patience.
Mr Android: no problem.
Jasmin McClarity: The phone will receive a notification of the push within 1-15 minutes.
Jasmin McClarity: This update should be coming to your device in a few minutes.
Mr Android: great!
however.....its been 20min and no such notification has occurred. i haven't lost hope yet...i'll keep you posted. :-\
