Htc Inspire sideload update!!!!

Okay hung up with that idiot. The I talked to the online tech support again. He said 24-48 hours from now i'll receive a message. What do you guys think?

I am attempting again to find out when I may get the update. Seems like everyone is receiving it much quicker now.

so i got pretty ansy to have swype on my phone. i talked to 2 ppl through the chat this morning. got nothing. called in, got the run around, then i was finally connected with james in the PMC. but it still didnt come through. he said it may be due to heavy traffic. i guess theres a lot of us calling in, hahha. he said he'd give me a courtesy call in 24hrs to see if it has gone through. ill fill you guys in tomorrow.

Wow, only took me less than 10 minutes and a person named Jennifer helped me get the update. Got it as soon as she said, "You will recieve the update within 24 hours." Att tech support is great. I just said the same thing as Dre and BAM! she knew what i was talking about! Maybe i just got lucky!

Okay I'm now just going to wait for a day and see what happens. I've dealt with 6 different people and nothing has happened yet. Hmm.

I think it is so bizarre the different responses we get from the chat. I first talked to a guy Tuesday who said it was pushed, but I didn't receive anything. Then today I got someone who said that it was on hold due to security issues and couldn't give an ETA as to when it would be fixed then two hours later I talked to Alex who pushed it to me and I received it immediately.

I ended up in the BDS techs on Tuesday so today I specifically asked for that again today and I got Alex.

For those still waiting, hang in there and be persistant!

My first post! Yay! Just got my Inspire a week ago....Spending 3 days trying to get this update!

One person seemed to know what was going on, but it didn't work. Ended up with a Tier2 Tech today...she said no such update exists through AT&T... Then I mentioned the PMC department and XDC she said they don't exist... Only to give me a phone number for the PMC Department (which didn't exist a minute prior) a little later saying they would know about this update (that doesn't exist according to her).

UPDATE:
On the phone with PMC guy. He doesn't even know what I'm talking about and can't find any thing on it.

UPDATE:
Just off phone with Donald (PMC guy) . Said "Official AT&T stance" is they don't support this feature.

LOL Why can't things I do ever be easy?

I can't even seem to bring chat up. I'll click on a support topic (other technical issues, etc.) and it says click to open chat. There's nothing to click on to open chat though.

The following are instructions that I have come up with to unlock the "Unknown Sources" option on non rooted Android phones that do not have the option available. By unlocking this option you will now have the ability to install non "Android Market" applications such as "TeamViewer" and more
~Warning~
This was performed in a HTC Inspire 4G so results may vary for each phone
THIS PROCESS WILL RESET YOUR CONFIGURED SETTINGS TO THE DEFAULT (Display, Ringtone, Wallpaper, etc.) BUT DO NOT WORRY BECAUSE IT ISN'T PERMANENT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS RECONFIGURE IT AND ITS WORTH IT IF YOU ARE UNLOCKING THE OPTION "Unknown Sources"
1. Go To Your "Settings"
2. Go To "Applications"
3. Go To "Manage applications"
4. Go To The "All" Tab (or any tab that will display all your apps)
5. Find The Applications "Customization Settings Provider"
6. Click On "Clear data"
7. Go Back To "All" Tab (or any tab that will display all your applications)
8. Find The Program "Settings"
9. Click On "Clear data"
Finished
If You Go Back To "Applications" You Will Now Have The Option To Enable "Unknown Sources"

(I found this info on XDA forum, I dont take credit for it, there were reply posts of others who tried it and they said it worked great, took less then 1 minute.)

Just as a warning, this might ruin your MMS. I can't send or receive picture messages now and besides a reset there doesn't seem to be a fix yet.

I had a similar experience. Chated with a tech on Friday night. Tech new what I was talking about and told me he pushed the update but it would take 24-48 hrs to get it. By Sunday night there was no joy.

I called AT&T this morning and the customer care rep didn't know what I was talking about. I ended that call, called back and got someone else. He knew what I wanted but didn't have access to the "XDM tool". After about 10 minutes of him trying to find someone with authorization, they sent the update and I got it in minutes.

Used the method described in this thread to get the Unknown Sources option. Indeed, I now have Unknown Sources coming up, but also MMS is no longer working.

I went to the ATT store and they could not fix it. The guy told me it is the phone and to take it in to get a new one...but eh...I would like to find a solution. Is the only solution restoring the phone to factory condition?
