HTC Mail Memory Leak/Bug ("Phone Storage Getting Low")

Such a newbie, I don't even know about the most basic things, SMARBLEWNEC, how do I load that link from your post onto my phone when I get this up and running? Find it through the browser on the phone and click it, or is there a way to load it on my computer and then what? I don't sync or ever hook it up to computer, don't know how.

Thank you anyone that can give me a clue about how to deal with this phone!

San Juan, when I put them on the SD card (whole separate issue of getting thousands of emails into a word doc?) , it came with a reader, how do I read it from the phone when I put the SD card back in the phone?

You can just use the browser, click on the link, then click on the most recent version of k9 and download it, then the phone will prompt you to install the file.

I don't think you can store thousands of emails on a phone and expect it to work.

___________

This seems to be the issue with the incredible for all of us coming from bb. I had over 2500 emails on the bb with no problems. I actually had it set to NEVER delete old emails. I used it for work and from time to time would need to bring up an old email for reference. With the incredible things are a lot different and will take some getting used to. Htc told me the email program should handle up to 100mb of email. That is a ton of email, well into the thousands if the program is working correctly. I have almost 500 emails in the k9 app and it is less than 6mb so 3000 emails would only be about 36mb depending on the size of each email. Something is definitely wrong with the HTC mail on at least some of the incredibles.

Not that I disagree that the phone would be able to handle that many emails, but how do you reference them? How would you find one email out of thousands?
If you have the opportunity to use Exchange, that may be the way to go.

Has anyjuan ever gone to Verizon and asked why the low memory warning has come on with 600 some Mb of storage available?

HTC mail 18.39 down from 26.17 yesterday( 18.39 data + 6.37 cache)

How many emails do you have stored?
What happens when you clear the cache?

Have you gotten the low mem warning?

I have one POP3 and Gmail (as you said, not relevant) on my phone. Sorting the list by size, I see 3.05mb for the HTC mail app. I use the feature to auto-delete my messages after one day (see my post in today's tips & tricks). Maybe this keeps the size under control.

I have never seen the "Phone storage is getting low" warning.

32 days, No reset ever - Never had the "issue"...

Internal Phone Memory 6.6gb, 6.55gb
Phone Memory 748mb total, 604mb

HTC mail 2.69mb + 252kb Cache. (Have seen it as high as 22mb's)

Been on vacation so my mail flow has slowed down quite a bit.

HTC Settings...

Mail size limit: 10kb
Download Feq: As Items Arrive (shows up before it does in my Outlook at work)
Download Past mail: 3days
Include file attachments: NEVER

Note that the last entry doesn't prevent me from getting attachments, it just doesn't get them without me asking for them.

Yeah, I'm going to chalk this up to some sort of fluke prior to my resetting to factory defaults. My settings are:

Mail size limit: 100kb
Download Feq: 15 minutes
Download Past mail: 3days

It's been about a week since I had the issue, and my Mail is showing 1.99MB (down from 4.50MB before). When it was at 4.5MB, I just deleted about 6 emails with attachments, cleared the cache, and it dropped back to 1.99MB.

FWIW, my Mail size limit was to 1MB the first time around. That was when Mail got bloated. I'm going to contend that size limit could likely be the issue.

Phone Memory 748 total, 705 avail no change
HTC mail 17.45 down from 18.39 yesterday( 17.45 data + 6.16 cache)

I am trying not clear my cache(Trying to re create the low memory issue)
I am not deleting any email, but for spam, and the phone is set for downloading three days worth of email, and removes email older then three days.
Download settings are for 25kb limit, frequency is every 15 minutes, Temp attachment storage to the SD card.

I have 5 email accounts
Exchange
Gmail
3 pop

I have not had a "Low Storage" message after I factory reset my phone on 05/16

Have you verified that it will remove emails that are over 3 days old? How do you do that? Does it put those into the Trash folder? If so, your file size will continue to increase.

When i check my folders, (open account, select menu, select folders) there are no emails over three days old. I think that the file size increases and decreases daily, depending on the number of emails received on that given day. But I don't know that as fact.

can you tell me where the settings are to delete all over 3 days?
I have mine set to the download setting of 3 days but I will have every email deleted in my trash folders until I delete those.

So if I understand you correctly, your download settings are for three days and you have email older then three days in your trash folder?

I don't think there are any settings, they just get deleted in the POP email accounts. At least that's been my experience.

Yes I did. After the second reset I switched to K-9 mail and have not had a problem since.
