HTC Merge delayed -- to get LTE?

Just got back from the VZW store.

They said that the email they have says November 18th, they also offered me $50 off the phone if I go to their store to buy it :)

This begs the question, are the GPS and battery issues able to be resolved in the next software update or do they have an inventory of phones waiting to be shipped to their stores with hardware issues? If the latter, it's unlikely to be resolved by next week!

As much as I need to replace my BB 8830 it sounds like this may require a wait and see approach.

I called one Verizon store and the guy I talked to said he knew nothing about it, and they would have had training if there was an email. I called another store and talked to a manager for about 10 minutes and she checked her email and other sources and finally said she knew nothing about it either. I don't know why they would say this if there was a release soon. I live in a large metro area (Phoenix) so I could probably call 20 different stores if I wanted too, but I have a feeling they would all say the same thing.

I haven't called or gone to any stores, but your response is what I would have expected. Why are so many people getting a positive response? Are they talking to really good salespeople who would sell ice at the North Pole?

Not sure if this would matter, but the store I went to wasn't a "Verizon" store, it's a "Cellular Connection" that sells Verzion exclusively.

At this point, I could care less when it's coming out, I got $50 off!

Based on this, I would say they just want to find any way for you to come back to them to buy the phone. Who knows, though, those 3rd party retailers can surprise you sometimes.

Agree with superskaterxes. This ain't Sparta, but this is madness. Also, can we get this moved to the Merge subforum? The release date is rummored, but the device is not and it's maddedning to have to constantly check in two places. Thanks.

I know someone that is a beta tester for Verizon, the Merge is in fact delayed! I pretty much trust what he says, he's been smack on with the release of every phone he has shown me in the last 2 years. He's using the merge as his daily device right now, and said its decent as far as he can see. However his unit has been having some serious GPS issues, and the battery has be less then steller. I held it for a few minutes and played around with it, and I'll say it feels super solid, has some heft to it, it has a slide similar to the Moto Droid series phones, (no G2 hinge crap) keyboard feels great, 2.2 is very zippy on it, however one thing that striked me was the screen! Not in an impressive way either, the colors just didn't pop at all while using it at even the highest setting. It may be I'm just used to my Fascinates Super Amoled, or the incredibles Amoled. But in any event, it just struck me as a little dull, the screen that is! Everything else looked great as far as build quality. Much better built then the incredible or even the EVO! I'll snap, and post some pics when I see him over the weekend.

i hope they fix the battery life and the screen. im really hoping this phone is as good as we believe. i have storm 2 and am ready for an upgrade. I want a droid and this one seems perfect... i love the way the keyboard looks on the merge

The most I've heard on the Merge in the past few days was a post from someone on another forum claiming to be going for training on it this Friday.

Anyone heard anything else, any potential release dates???

I just want to let you guys in on something. If you call Verizon and ask customer service or a sales rep when the Merge is coming out, they will say that they do not know or that they don't know what you are talking about. If they knew when it was coming out they still would have to tell you they they don't know. I work in for a sales company in the compliance/quality assurance department and I know for certain that reps can't tell you anything about things that they are told not to talk about. They can/will lose their jobs if they did. All of those phone calls are recorded and listened to in order to ensure that everything is legal and that everyone is doing what they are supposed to.

I am not saying that the Merge is coming out soon. What I'm saying is that if you ask someone who works for Verizon when the Merge is coming out and they act like they don't know, they very well could know but aren't allowed to say anything about it.

Or you could speak to rep who doesn't know what they are doing and accidentally slips. I guess you have to play the odds haha

I just want to see this device already.

I fully understand why they do that if they would openly talk about up coming devices they would have alot more people like me just sitting and waiting for the great next gen phones to release
