HTC One 2 aka HTC M8 rumor round-up: camera, specs, release date and design

Also, anybody wondering what that cutout above the volume keys in the case is for? Perhaps microSD? Seems like an odd place to put it though

Most likely a SIM tray. They won't add an SD card

That's rather odd to put a cutout for a SIM tray in the case, no?

Yeah but then again why would they put a cutout for the SD card on the case?

According to @evleaks

"Forget HTC One+. Look for M8 to be called The All New One, in gray, silver, and gold".

Interesting.

This is something I don't understand, people can accept the Nexus 5's huge bottom bezzle but they have a problem with the HTC M8's purported bezzle. HTC's recent phone designs have been some of the most beautiful designed phones in the last year. The only thing I hope for in the M8 is a better camera than the HTC ONE.

WTF!? The bottom bezel on the Nexus 5 is probably 1/3 the size of the M8 based on the renderings. Throw in the fact that the power button on the Nexus 5 is on the right instead of the top and it makes it even more acceptable. With the new HTC One, you're going to either have to use two hands or shimmy the phone in your hand every time you want to turn it on and then put it back in your hand properly. This is a bad design flaw IMO.

The power button position won't make a difference if you can wake it by swiping the bezel

Agreed...that's the least they could do. Although that doesn't solve the same issue you'd have each time you want to turn the screen off.

Could this be what it looks like from the top?

Not sure about the colour as we've heard it will launch in only Silver, Grey and Gold.

You don't need the bezel to have that feature, look at BB10.

If you were to actually look at the BB10 phones, you would see that there is indeed a bezel. Z10 has a large one for it and the q10 thinned it down to save space, which has been the subject of complaints because it is too hard to reliably swipe on a bezel that thin. IF they indeed have the swipe-the-logo to unlock feature on the M8, and that's a big IF, they are just trying to ensure that there is enough space to actually do the gesture in like the z10 and unlike the skinny version on the q10, where its cramped and apparently not as reliable.

But you don't need to swipe from the bezel to turn the screen on, just swipe up the screen. Now for the multitasking gesture in BB10, you do need the bezel because the swipe needs to start offscreen because it could be mistaken for a scrolling swipe, but to turn the screen on it isn't needed because the screen is off.

These renders look fishy to me. The dark and light versions have so many differences it's laughable.

The "divots" on the top/right of the rear cam housings, the angles (dark is 3D, light is 2D), how things (don't) line up (look at where the top of the screen lines up next to the horizontal line on the back), etc. They're almost 2 different devices.

Terrible rendering QA if these are legit.
