HTC One Camera problem: static live view but still takes photos and video

Simple fix to this issue after calling HTC support.

Go to settings, apps, camera, clear catche. Don't worry when warning comes up as all your pictures will still be there.

Then go back to settings, power, un-check the fast boot.

Return to home screen and restart your phone.

It will work!

Good luck :)

This just happened to me on AT&T. Power-on/off did not resolve, also not leaving it off for 8 hrs. Factory reset worked and the camera is normal again. Now I have to reinstall my apps, which is not a bad exercise anyway to delete cruft...

So glad I found this thread! I started having this problem this morning, after my phone was exposed to some moisture from a leaky (grrrr) water bottle. I turned off and back on several times.

The simple restart seems to have solved the problem. Phew, thanks!

I m from India and got the phone two months back. Had the exact same problem today.....really fortunate to have found this thread......was almost off to get my phone replaced under warranty

Tried shutting it down a few times and still had the same problem.......but restarting solved it....hope such problems get fixed in future updates...phew!

Local Verizon store's demo phone has this bug. Was influencing my decision to upgrade from GS3. I will reconsider.

Had the same issue with static view on Camera. I am in Canada with Rogers Wireless. They also wanted me to do a factory re-set as well. I looked on here and after reviewing a few comments thought I would try "restart" as well and voila, my camera is now fine. Thanks All!

This problem started for me yesterday evening. As several others on here did, I tried rebooting several times and no luck. Found this website and the thread, via google. As many posters suggested I tried a restart and camera back working properly again.
Just registered on Forum to say thanks to all who found how to fix the issue.

Whoo hooooo !!!!! After trying everything I could think of (except for calling HTC ) I tried this and it worked instantly. Many thanks!

Hi All, i found that reboot (first thing to try) nor a cold start worked and was certainly NOT going to run factory reset, takes too long to rebuild, and too barbaric/drastic.
However, just ran a s/w update to 4.2.3 and now camera fixed..I am in Europe so not sure if the update is global. now have to find what the update has done!

I had the same issue with an HTC one. I did a reboot and the problem was gone. Hold the power button and the volume up button together for about 10 seconds a the phone will reboot. No need for a hard reset. Good luck.
