HTC one fullscreen problem

I just got the HTC one and i wanted to watch some videos online ( not on youtube )
And what i noticed is when i press the full screen button he wants to go full screen but the screen is only 30 % video and the rest is black screen .
And it wont go sideways .

Do you have auto-rotation turned on?

As the user suggested above, turn on auto rotation, and turn your phone sideways.

Go into settings, hit display and gestures and first box is auto rotate, put ckeckmark on that baby and hello full screen in landscape.
