HTC One: Here's the SKINNY on the infamous PURPLE TINT (thermal defect)

Nice essay but I think you are giving people false hope that a software update will fix the problem. It almost certainly won't. if the company that makes the phone tackle reported issues by replacing camera modules, that sounds awfully like a hardware problem to me.

It's a possible alternate fix. You can tone down the agressiveness of the software, or keep the software and beef up the hardware. Still doesn't debunk my theory. Tweaking the software may lose some of the low light effectiveness, but as it is now it's basically useless so it's a viable alternative.

But that isn't what they're servicing when these devices get fixed. They're replacing the camera module.

Because you can't service the software on an individual phone, so they're fixing it the only way they can.

We're talking about software updates that take carriers months and months to push out. Can't just apply to one phone at a time.

Ok, believe what you want. The easiest explanation is usually the correct one.

So you think the easiest explanation is this: Camera is fine for months, then this issue pops up. What's changed? The software (firmware). So the hardware is the culprit?

The concept of there being one constant and one dynamic and then calling the constant as the reason for a change in result does not make sense to me.

In the OP apparently the tech was going on about "lens staying open" which makes the rest of the information suspect.
May have been a misquote on my behalf...I'm thinking the HTC tech meant or said the camera sensor is constantly engaged when you're in Zoe mode. Either way there's nothing suspect about this being a hardware issue. You've been argued down to a complete logic fail by most on this thread...Wouldn't it be better to concede defeat rather than assure idiocy!?

Here i am trying to give insight to most about why we are experiencing a problem by having the balls to put it out there. Albeit, in every one of these more interesting threads, there's always someone that's SUPER SMART. They know more than everyone else and are intent upon showing us. Funny thing is, I know a lot of really smart people and they really don't like to waste a lot of time teaching common fools....So I ask Darth Mo...what gives? Is he Super Smart as he appears in his comments...or just one level of fool above the rest of us trying to separate himself?? LOL! Either way, my phone will be back with a brand new camera that works like gold while Super Smart waits on the next iteration of Sense or Android to fix his!! Good luck with that!

I've rebutted every single alleged "logic fail" in this thread...

In fact the only logic fail I can find is that no one can explain why people's cameras were fine for months then all of a sudden...purple. Anyone?

Reread the thread, it's been explained many times. The fact that you seem intent on "winning" the thread speaks volumes.

I said rebutted, as in I provided a credible counterpoint. I haven't dismissed the fact that it could be a hardware issue; I just don't see definitive proof that it is.

The only answer presented is overheating, but that doesn't explain why the exact same hardware didn't exhibit this behavior from day one.

And, others have said that's not actually the case, but you haven't responded to them. In the case of my own camera. I returned my original HTC One for purple tinting. It had the 4.3 update. My replacement phone was, a 15 day return, bought new. It had no trouble tickets, per my Sprint rep whom i completely trust as he's been my go to for many years. My new phone had the tinting issue worse than my old one AND it had not yet been updated to 4.3. I updated to 4.3 expecting that to resolve the issue...It was a No Go! It wasn't just purple tinting either..it was poor focusing, grainy, hazy, and some orangish tinting as well. There was no combination of setting that fixed this including the 4.3 update. Most of us in this thread have acknowledged your argument, but you have chosen to poo poo most of ours...And, i'm pretty sure you will poo poo this response as well because it does not fit with your opinion.

Also, you stated that you have not discounted this being a hardware problem, but that's exactly what the flavor of every single one of your posts is doing despite a sentence here or there saying it could be that "but it makes no sense!" I mean cmon...you quoted my post as BS...oh wait...NO you said the tech was BSing me because obviously I'm not smart enough to know when I'm being BSed! LOL!

Nothing of value is coming from this thread at this point. It's pretty clear this is a hardware issue and the info provided by the OP from HTC is interesting.

Let's hope it's resolved in the next version of the device.

OK. You are right. Everyone else (including HTC) is wrong. Happy now?

This thread needs closed as it is going nowhere (if not backwards).

Also, earlier in this thread i gave you a phone number where you could contact HTC directly and you don't have to have a long wait time in order to get some simple answers..Have you chosen to do that? It would be interesting to hear your silence after you make said contact because HTC will all but confirm that the camera modules can't withstand the heat and they are replacing them with upgraded camera modules...WHETHER OR NOT your phone was being repaired for a faulty camera module!!!! At some point you just have to give...and I GIVE! LOL!

I did, and the guy walked me through doing a phone reset. Nothing about sending the phone in. So you see where I don't know what to think...

If that was the first line of support, that explains it. They did the same thing with me...None of that Sh** worked! They try to iso whether or not an application is fooling with the camera just as a precaution and i'm sure walking you thorough a reset did not solve the issue...they should have moved you on to the next level!

Here's one I took over the holidays. I think this even had the flash fire. That's why there wasn't purple all over the shot. I will tell you, thought, that the sweatshirts in that shot were NOT purple!

To the OP, have you gotten any word as to when your device will be returned? I sent mine to the Houston address on Thursday, and they received it on Friday. Also, I've heard some people received a replacement, instead of their original device. I'd be interested in what you get back.

I sure hope to get mine back soon. I've had to revert back to one of my kids' feature phones, and it's been quite the struggle. 😧

Let's pray next HTC One+ will not have this problem at all,not even 1% of the units or else HTC will die for ever (or taken by Lenovo)

let us pray,
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be gone, thy purple tint . Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
