HTC One: Here's the SKINNY on the infamous PURPLE TINT (thermal defect)

Since the OP hasn't said anything about receiving his One back, I will let you guys know if the problem is fixed once I get mine back. I sent it in Friday, it should reach HTC tuesday, and I hope to get it back this coming Friday. Got tired of waiting for people to reply to my questions so I decided to just go for it myself!

Here's one I took over the holidays. I think this even had the flash fire. That's why there wasn't purple all over the shot. I will tell you, thought, that the sweatshirts in that shot were NOT purple!

To the OP, have you gotten any word as to when your device will be returned? I sent mine to the Houston address on Thursday, and they received it on Friday. Also, I've heard some people received a replacement, instead of their original device. I'd be interested in what you get back.

I sure hope to get mine back soon. I've had to revert back to one of my kids' feature phones, and it's been quite the struggle. 😧

I apologize for not following up folks, but I did receive my phone back.I was very happy to see good low light pics again, but WTF? ...Now I'm seeing a pink color shift right in the middle of the frame and it covers about the size of a quarter...I'm so pissed...no matter of adjustments solved the problem.I called HTC and told them and with no questions asked, they are sending all free shipping to re-repair-woohoo- I get to be without my phone AGAIN! AND,I have to customize all over AGAIN! NOW, I'm starting to lose love for this damn phone! They did try and offer a loaner phone through Sprint, of whom I'm still waiting for an answer. But, on HTC's side, they asked no questions nor offered any software tweaks. They just offered to fix it again while being very apologetic...GRRRRRR!

It really takes that long? :/ you think you'll get it tomorrow though, being a holiday and all? I shipped mine friday thinking they would get it monday but didn't realize my plans sucked until I found out it was a holiday.

Oh man I'm sorry that happened! Here's hoping this time it works out! I remember when I first got the phone I traded it in for another one that had the same problem and then after customizing it and everything again I tried resetting it to see if the problem would go away but nada. Once I get mine back from HTC it will be the fifth time I have to change back my settings and install apps and all that good stuff.

That's what is indicated on the FedEx website. It was actually loaded onto a truck for delivery on Saturday at a location about 20 minutes from our house, but because HTC sent it by ground instead of by air, it isn't set to be delivered until Monday. Because a signature is required, I'm having it delivered to the closest FedEx Store, and will pick it up there on my way home from work. Fingers crossed that it works. 🍀

So did you get your same phone back, or did they send you a replacement that had some other issue?

When I sent an email to them asking about the repair process, they said that they send the same phone back. No refurbished models.

I sent mine in, and they are trying to BS me saying that the speaker needs repair and it's not under warranty. I argued with them that the reason i sent phone in is for the Camera, not the speaker and they claim it's either all or nothing fix. They wont fix the phone unless i pay $90 for speaker replacement.

When i asked them why speaker doesn't work, they couldn't prove it doesn't work, They said oh case is damaged. I literally only dropped my pone 1 time ever and it has a small nick on the bottom and i think they are claiming that is not covered under warranty. Nick is so tiny you honestly wouldn't see it unless i pointed it out. So i think it's BS they just want me to pay for repair and labor so they don't have to keep fixing their cameras.

Here is what my pictures looked like in low lighting...

I received my same phone back, but i havent sent it back to them yet...I'm on the fence about it..to be honest. I'm thinknig maybe just deal with it as is as it's certainly not as bad as it was before and there seems to be another HTC One coming out in a couple of months. However, I do want my current phone to look and work flawlessly for the sake of resale value.

My thoughts exactly... i just want to get my phone back and resell it... As soon as I get it back, and be done with it. I haven't been happy with this purchase at all. I switch from HTC to samsung and never had an issue, then i decided to try the HTC One on launch day because of the build quality and now i'm seriously regretting that decision. I should of went with GS4.

I actually love my phone, it's just the camera that has me second guessing, however, if they are able to completely fix it and it's durable, then I'll be happy with HTC again!

Same here, I love everything about it except the camera. Did you have any bumps or scratches on the phone when you sent it in?

Well, the purple tint appears to be fixed.

However, I now have a new problem regarding a SIM error, which I didn't have before. They sent me a new SIM card. Why?

Neither HTC nor Sprint have been able to help with this. What's going on? Sheesh...

I tried two different paperclips and even a pin and I couldn't get the Sim card out so I hope that doesn't have a negative affect on anything. I'm curious though if you are on sprint like me why is it even using the Sim card?

I've never really understood that either. Hope someone has an answer to that. I finally got the card in so that I'm not getting any errors (fingers crossed).

Technically CDMA phones still have a SIM card, it's just that they're normally permanently mounted to the motherboard.

I imagine in this case since the One is on so many carriers worldwide, from a design standpoint it made more sense to use the more "traditional" removable SIM card. But that's just a guess.

How long after they got your phone did they update the tracking website? Usps shows it being divered 2 or 3 hours ago but htc doesn't show that they received it. I'm a very impatient person when ot comes to my belongings haha.

They got my phone on 1/9 (from UPS tracking number), but it didn't show up on HTC's system until the following Tuesday (1/14). By the end of the day on the 15th the FedEx tracking number showed up, but I couldn't see it on FedEx until the 16th.
