HTC One (M8): Bugs and Defects

I've had my M8 HKE for about a month, on Sprint. While connected to a 4G/Spark network, it works great. Transitioning from 3G to 4G is a nightmare though. Since Sprint sent an OTA patch last week, every call I've made or taken drops within a minute, text messages take forever to go through, and internet is a crapshoot.

Things I've tried:
  • Switching data mode from CDMA/LTE to Automatic
  • Changing the sleep mode in Power Settings
  • Switching it from Automatic back to CDMA only

Before the patch, the network connectivity was actually pretty bad ***.. I switched from an iPhone 4S to this phone.. and while I love the phone itself, the network connectivity has been horrible. I've been a customer from Sprint for the last 10+ years, but because I'm over the 14 day limit, I can't swap or exchange my phone for another make or model without paying through the nose.
Just my two cents...

I was having a similar problem a couple of weeks ago. I called Sprint, and they recommend that I do a Service Reset...

The sequence is...##72786# then tap MEMU and Reset

It seemed to work for a couple of weeks at least.

I did, however, have call dropping problems again. I called Sprint again, and I they are sending me an Airave.

gonna give that a shot, thanks!

I bought a new M8. I got a software update and i downloaded it. But when i try to install, the phone reboots and I'm redirected to a recovery page (TEAMWIN). There it shows that there is a zip file missing and it is unable to locate it. The file name is CxHvAy@xIxIwF|C. Please advise on how to update the software now.

You didn't buy a new phone. You bought someone's phone that was previously rooted.

-I've noticed a very high pitched, high frequency squeal coming out of the speakers. Only audible if I'm close to the screen.

-There's a bit of backlight bleeding near the edge of the screen. Coming from a Samsung AMOLED this is quite annoying.

-Lastly, and easily the most annoying bug, sometimes when I have an app open then use one of the navigation buttons it will randomly open the Google Maps or Clock app. ONLY maps or Clock... I seriously don't know what is causing this. ANY TIPS?

Re: HTC One (M8) Bugs and Defects

I started a different thread on this but will post in here as well. Is anyone having issues using the google hangouts app and sending mms messages while connected to wifi. I am unable to send any of mine until I turn off wifi. Not sure if this is a KitKat problem, a hangouts app issue, or something else.

If you're Sprint, currently none of their devices can send an MMS while connected to WiFi and with Mobile Data disabled.

Hey guys,
When I woke up today my phone had some serious issue.
I can turn the phone on and off with the power button, but when the phone is lit and I want to
lock the screen, the button does not work. I can hold it in and get to the power meny, but when
i just tap it, nothing happens...

Do any of you know why it occour? Havent done anything unusual...
Clearly the button works, because I can enter the Power meny...

If I understand what you're saying you want your phone to lock after you tap the power button to put it into sleep. Is that correct?
If you go into settings -> security. What is your lock phone after set to? If it isn't set to Immediately I recommend you change it to that.

Today, my girlfriend's camera app decided to stop working. She opens it up and it shows a black screen, then shuts off a few seconds later. She doesn't have Lastpass on it and I can't seem to find anything else on what to do to fix it. Tried power cycling it a couple of times and then I tried force closing the app and restarting it. Any ideas on what could be causing the issue? It was working fine this morning.

I have the same problems especially if I have used the GPS earlier.

Just one bug so far for me, and quite a weird one. If I'm watching something on Google Play Movies and press the menu button on my pebble, the video crashes out. It took me a while to realise it wasn't just a coincidence.

To fix the Issue:
1. Switch off Fast boot option
2. Restart your phone
3. Untick all notification light options (emails, voice massages etc)
4. Restart the phone again
5. Now, tick all the notification option you want
This worked for me…!

I have the same problem also. Is anyone aware of any fixes?

The contact pictures aren't displaying in the HTC messaging app. I've changed them, they showed up for a while and are gone again...they display in the phone app and in People, just not in messages. Anyone else?

Has anyone figured this one out? Anyone else with this problem? It drives me nuts.

Pretty minor bug, but the notifications in the notification tray have odd spacing. The vertical margins are different between the first and status bar than between the second and first.

Whenever I put gifs on my phone via pc or download them they loop for a minute then just stop. It is pretty annoying.

I bought a new HTC one m8 outright today and when i got home i proceeded to activate it myself.
I stupidly forgot to buy a sim card - the mini ones meh.
i know absolutely nothing about phones and plans and activating and stuff.
So i put in the beginning stuff and everyting- like the time, the date, connected to inernet etc.
But i don't have a expandable memory card yet.

I downloaded like 15 apps/games. When i moved an app on the screen to another position the screen flashed black for a second then back to normal. I then tried to move the app again and my screen went black again- I did this a few times.
I thought it was just something meh, but when i opened a game, the screen kept flashing black too.
Sometimes when i try to drag the top bar down the screen flashes black too.

Ugh im scared because my mum will kill me for getting a crappy phone or something.
I tried seeing if the extreme power saver was on and it was off, i also became a developer? whatever that means...

The music is fine though.

Any way to stop the flashing? I really don't want to go back to the store.

Obviously you have a defective phone which needs to be replaced.
