I was told they were going to send me a new device, i.e., the meaning of 'exchange' in 'exchange device plan'. Instead, they repaired it.

And the repair lens had scratches. And the repair lens wasn't even flush with the back of the phone. And now my volume rocker is somehow more loose now as opposed to when I sent the phone in.

I swear I could rip my hair out right now. I pay money for a perfect device with one minor defect, and the device they send back to me is worse than when I sent it in. I can't even deal with HTC right now.

Sorry to hear that.. although, the lens is supposed to sit a little recessed in the case, not level with it. Who told you they were sending a replacement? Insurance or HTC?

I received audible confirmation from an HTC customer representative that the device I would be receiving would be a BRAND NEW device.

I finally received my m8 back after it being gone for a few days. They sent me a new device. All I paid was the $19 for shipping and they didn't cause any hassle. They actually shipped the device back with over night shopping so I received it earlier today. Now I just hope this one doesn't revieve the same camera issue. I have to restore all of my stuff back to this phone now. I'm going to do that in the morning. Finally back with the m8!

Ok so i went about and tried cleaning the coating off. Started with alcohol and qtip. Didnt really get anywhere. Placed toothpasted and used a qtip to clean. Then alcohol after. Did the job!

My question now to all those who cleaned the lens... Does it still scratch easily? Should i put some type of protection over it? Or is it strong enough like other phones to withstand scratches?

I had this exact problem! Here is my story of how I received a free repair from HTC:

I emailed HTC’s USA President, Jason Mackenzie, directly with my complaint. (I did this over Memorial Day weekend.) I explained my past experience with the M7—which was excellent-- and suggested that the M8 is somehow defective.

Jason responded within hours and indicated that someone would contact me on Tuesday. On Tuesday, I was called on both my cell and work phone, and I received an email! When I got back with HTC, they offered to provide an overnight shipping label (both to and from HTC) and they also GUARANTEED that my phone would be repaired FREE OF CHARGE.

***In full disclosure, I emailed Jason from my work email address—I am an attorney. Notwithstanding, I think all affected M8 customers should receive this same remedy—and a free case to compensate for going without your phone during the repair. Anyway, give it a shot!

Here's my story:

Contacted HTC and Jason Mackenzie. Got a call from special teams saying that my M8 will be repaired with no costs etc. My phone arrived at their warehouse on Friday at 11:30AM. For some weird reason, the morning of that exact Friday at 9:00AM I received a tracking number from FedEx through HTC saying that a package has been sent to me? I contacted HTC and their portal shows that they have yet to receive my M8, and they have no explanation for the package they sent me. I called FedEx and the description of the package is "HTC Phone Repair" and told me HTC must've slipped my label on someone else's box given that there is no way my phone was repaired in the matter of hours and that HTC's stystem has not recognized receiving my phone I shipped them through UPS.

I contacted Jason again and he told me I would hear back. What is going on!?

I used this method... The lens seems pretty strong to prevent scratching (as you did use toothpaste which is abrasive!). I personally order the slickwraps lens protector but found it to be a little cloudy. I was also getting a notice that the secondary lens was block sometimes... So, I purchased the Nillken glass screen kit... It came with lens protectors... I use them and they are very clear... I guess better safe than sorry in this case..

Did the tracking info say your label was received by FedEx and in transit, or just that they received the shipping information? I think often times, a business will setup shipping info for a package, and the tracking info will show up but that the package has yet to be picked up by the carrier.

Yes the phone can be repaired that fast. In fact a lens replacement is only maybe a 10 minute job. I send in stuff for repair all the time in my work and its pretty normal for me to get things back before they update the computers to show that they have received it.

What involved with replacing the lens? Whats the parts? Why don't they show that in the system when I call?

I called HTC and they said no way it was repaired that fast - "usually takes 5-7 business days". They can't tell me either what they sent me from the repair facility.

Will get an update next week. Hmmmm?

All I was saying is it can be fixed in just a few minutes and that other companies have returned repaired parts to me before it was ever updated in the computers. Yours may have not been fixed and they may be sending you some other phone. It's all good.

Well I was told that the only option I have is to be phone less for a week while they repair my phone after paying shipping and $140 to repair my lens... This sucks

I told the lady I was chatting with that I've heard multiple option but she would only give me the one option of sending my phone in and repairing it for $140..I want the option of them sending me a new phone ,putting a hold on my credit card till I send my old phone back to them..that's the best option for me I feel

Call back and talk to another representative. You should never be expected to go without your phone.

Both HTC and Samsung are proving their customer service is terrible right now. Two flagship phones with two severe issues. No answers in sight.
