HTC One (M8): Camera Lens Issue

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Well because it was rooted warranty is void and they can't replace it even though someone managed to get there's repaired on this thread with custom ROM on it. I am going to get it back unrepaired and try to remove coating, then I will put on eBay. I hate htc now, never getting a phone by them again. If hundreds of people have this issue and htc won't fix it then that is just pathetic. No more htc for me.

Well no other company will even look at your phone if its rooted. At least HTC has fixed some when rooted. Why didn't you just clean it off to start with?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Hello guys, check my topic i started before i found you here :

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...-camera-problem-night-photos.html#post3830243

You can check my pictures before i noticed a problem and after i noticed a problem.

I had a few scratches on my camera, so i did a thing with qtim and alcohol, i removed the film and camera is now brandnew, no any scratches. But still when i compare pictures taken before and now - huge difference, still i have lack of details (check the lik i posted up and see pictures).

I don't know what is causing this...Day pictures are fine but when i turn flash on - blurry as hell.

What to do next ? And one more question, do i need to clean both back cameras with qtip and alcohol ?

I thought I did, must have forgot to unroot. I locked bootloader. It was s-off. Well any tips on cleaning off coating? Going to list it on eBay....

Now that you've mentioned the flash it brings up a possible reason. Did you not have a case on it (or a different case) when you took the original pictures? In some cases people have reported what they call lens flare with the flash when using clear cases that has separate areas cut out for the flashes and the cameras. People who have the flash and camera in a combined cut-out for the case don't have the issue. If you have a case on it try taking it off, and then taking pictures and see if that fixes the problem.

If you're dead set on selling it why are you bothering to take off the coating? Leave that for the buyer to decide for him/herself to decide if he/she wants to remove it.

Then they will complain pictures are blurry and want to return it.

I have HTC Dot View case, but i took all my pictures withoug a case, so that is not a problem.

Do i need to clean both back cameras with qtip and alc ?

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

UPDATE #2 - After waiting two days to be contacted by HTC, I decided I better call them myself. Just got off the phone with a CSR that did not speak very good English. I told her that I had initiated an advanced repair on August 1 and was assured by the support chat CSR that my issue would be covered. And that now the status is saying I need to pay $290 for the repair. She asked me to confirm that it was an issue with the camera lens, and I said yes. She then asked me if I had modified my "system" - bootloader, rooting, etc. And I said yes, but that this was a hardware issue, not a software issue. She said she understood and that she would have to "escalate" my ticket and that someone would contact me within 5-7 business days.

So apparently, they aren't wanting to cover it because my phone was unlocked and rooted? I was not entirely clear on that, but I do know they have honored warranties for others who were unlocked/rooted. And it's my understanding that unlocking/rooting does not automatically void the warranty when the issue is unrelated, which it obviously is. So I'll be anticipating the call from HTC and will report back.

UPDATE #3 - Have not gotten contact from HTC after my phone call was sent to "escalation" a couple of days ago. However, when I look at the tracker site now, it shows two low-res photos of my bootloader screen. So I guess that's confirmation that they are refusing warranty because of my unlocking. However, when the CSR rep looked up my serial number during chat BEFORE I did the advanced repair, he should have seen that my phone was unlocked since I did it via the HTC DEV site. At no time did he say the warranty would not be honored, and it was my understanding that the warranty will be honored as long as the repair isn't related to the modification. Since the camera lens issue is not at all related to unlocking my bootloader, I am still going to press the issue when they call me (which will hopefully be Monday or Tuesday). Since others in these forums said that they had no problem getting warranty service with an unlocked bootloader, I did not think it necessary to relock and change tamper bit. Obviously, I'm not trying to scam HTC for something I did myself; rather, it is a legitimate hardware issue that is totally unrelated and not caused by modded software. How hard is it for them to flash the factory rom back on the device and set it back to factory specs? Again, if my claim was for something I messed up due to unlocking, then I would understand not covering it.

EDIT:

Looking at the HTC DEV site where you unlock your bootloader (http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader) it says the following:

"It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty."

And further down it says:

"... going forward your device may not be held covered under the warranty for all claims resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader."

Notice it says "for all claims resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader". It doesn't say anywhere that the warranty is completely invalidated, nor does it say that warranty service will not be covered for claims NOT resulting from the unlocking of the bootloader. Based on this information, I see no reason why they should not honor warranty service for claims which are unrelated to the unlocking of the bootloader. And I will quoting this information when they call me from Escalation.

I had the same issue for the past week and it has been driving me crazy. I didn't think the camera was this bad! But this thread certainly helped me. Scratched off the coating and was took amazing pictures again!

Nice thing about the hand sanitizer is it can sit for a few minutes and soften the film without evaporating

Why not ask for them to ship it back and you ship them the replacement? You won't have to pay the $290 and can clean the lens yourself. I would think they would do that to keep you happy.

And to the others that are getting upset at this(not person I quoted) you know you are voiding your warranty when unlocking your boot loader. So why get upset when HTC doesn't honor the warranty just like any other major company?

To the person I quoted, I hope they take care of you...and please keep us updated. I am curious to the outcome. Good luck!

Your troubles are because of your doing. Why on earth would you return a rooted device and expect them to honor their warranty which explains what they will and won't do. Don't hate or blame HTC you should have known better. Clean the lens yourself and be done with it.

I have dust in my camera lense. It's causing it to not focus near as quick as it did. Anyone else with this issue?

Is the toothpaste thing permanent or it may scratch again?

It won't scratch again as long as you use something softer than glass to scratch it off. Everyone is using credit cards. Credit cards won't damage your lense.

What I noticed is that after scratching the coating off, the lense collect finger prints more easily.

Probably because people like me, who didn't even think about it, returned the phone, had HTC fix it and then get it back. Even though it was rooted, s-off, custom Rom, even a custom boot up and down. When it came back it was just like I just took it out of the box, except it had my tempered glass shield still on it. Also returned my M7 in the same condition with no problems. But I guess it's like playing Russian Roulette, he just hit the full chamber. :(

Yeah, permanent. What you're doing is removing the gunk on the lens, not scratching part of the lens off. The scratches you see are in the gunk, not the lens.

Re: HTC One (M8): Camera lens cover issue

Thanks for the fast help.I want to ask another thing.I am not sure that my lens are scratched,so i will ask for ur opinion by uploading some pics.Because on my vacation my photos looked like **** (very blurry as u will see) idk if it is because my hands are shaking or there were fingerprints on my camera.I am confused because there is circular thing on my camera and it looks very strange.
The dogs pictures are from the vacation and the others are after i've wiped the camera little.(i am still not sure if the photos after the wipe are sharp enough)
