htc one m8 can only use pre installed sound alerts for text notifications

when i go to msg settings then notifications then notificatios sound i select any of my zedge sounds it plays then apply it just goes to default ringtone dahlia only tones i can change are the pre installed ones.my email and ringtones work with zedge iv also tried another ring tone app thats the same
