htc one m8 mic doesnt work

everytime i want to record a snapchat video it doesnt record any audio, or whenever i make a phone call the other person doesnt hear me unless i activate and use speaker the speakers to talk any solutions?

Does this persist after a reboot? Or booting into Safe Mode? Or wiping the cache partition? Reset: HTC One (M8) | T-Mobile Support

If so, then it's likely a hardware defect. Contact HTC for warranty repair or replacement.

if i reboot it will i lose my phones contents?

Rebooting is simply power the phone off completely, and then turning it back on again. No data is lost.

Wiping the cache partition clears out temporary system data, but leaves personal data and settings alone.

How about using a headphone with a mic, or Bluetooth headphones--do those pick up your voice ok? If so, then it would seem that the microphone is defective. Since you're probably still under warranty, I'd contact HTC for warranty repair/replacement.
