I recommend deleting Facebook. I know it may not be %100 practical, but it should help

I may need to install GSam and see what I get now..

Thanks for your opinions ...

Another thing to consider that I am not reading about is to check your screen's brightness level and screen timeout setting.

Bravo dude... This is a very important factor! Turn your screen brightness down maybe...

Mine didn't have very good battery life so I decided to wipe it and start over. When I went through the setup process I realized that Facebook was already installed (Facebook for HTC) as part of the setup. Previously I had downloaded it from the play store. I might be wrong but it could be both versions were causing battery drain? Anyway my battery is way better now. I can get about 17 to 19 hours with heavy use.

Facebook for HTC is simply an app for FB integration into Blinkfeed

I am sorry but this has to be said.....I just got rid of the HTC One M7, all my friends who have the M8 say don't buy it. nothing has really been changed from the M7 to the M8. The M8 still has the purple picture issue, horrible battery life, and seriously this is 2014 a 5" screen is not an upgrade most high end phones are in the 5.5" range now days. Several individuals have replaced their M8's over 5 times and still have received phones that freeze, etc....... Bottom line I'm very disappointed in the M8, had high hopes but obviously HTC does not listen to it's consumers wants and needs because they took a promising phone and made it worse, so they most likely helped out apples new I phone 6 release sales.

I should not have to give up functions on my phone to get good battery life its suppose to be the other way around, seems as if M8 users are in serious denial and believe its OK to say just turn of everything and don't use your phone then you will get great battery life.....Duh.... HTC needs to fix the battery life and users need to speak up and stop giving tips on what else you should give up to extend your battery life, whats next turn your phone off unless you need to make a call, come on people get real and stop living in a fairy tale world.

Speak for your self.
I am giving first hand experience. Im on my original T-Mobile HTC One M8 that I got brand new from TMO about 2 months after it was launched. No problems with pictures, no problems with battery life. Going from an M7 to an M8 gave me about 20-40% better battery life. Because im with TMO and i have great coverage and data speeds i NEVER use WIFI. Im always on LTE. Dont turn off any of my syncing.
I play Ingress, use hangouts, google +, twitter, several personal and 1 work email, play some games.
Bottom line is my device has given me no problems and i will at a moments notice recommend it to anybody in a heart beat. It truly is a great device.
I have tried to put it down and go back to my note 3 but i cant. The speakers have spoiled me. And just because its 2014 doesnt meant we have to go with larger screens, by your logic in 3 years a 7 inch tablet will be a normal phone? Come on now. I find a 5 to 5.2 inch screen to be perfect size for MY usage. If you want a 6 inch screen go for it but dont say that a 5 inch screen is NOT a good size to have for a high end phone.
Phones i have used in the past few years, HTC One S, Nexus 4, Samsung GS3, HTC One M7, Nexus 5, Note 3, HTC One M8 (Daily Driver) and for work i have an iPhone 5s. So i do have the experience to say i have used other phones besides the M8.
From my perspective i have to ask you, If you or your friends have gone through 5 phones and still have problems, what are you doing to them?
Maybe after 5 phones its not the phones but rather the user.

Well ill start of by saying your experience with phones is far short of experience, secondly as I said in my post there is always on person side tracked by some awesome speakers this is not a boom box. again is i stated there is always that one person in denial that wishes the phone to be what it is not. I am speaking from experience as well, I had the crap M8 replaced it over 5 times and HTC says its a bad phone lol now after 5 replacements either I'm crazy or you work for HTC. Again is i stated I also have friends who have the phone and also confirm the battery life is horrible, and the camera is a joke in this market. Now as for the screen size let me stop you on that one, no one wants a 5' screen now if even apple realized hey were drowning in the market people want a screen at least 5.5 inches um I think your voided buddy. Lastly even if you read the post on this thread as far back as 3 months your one of the very few M8 owners of out of thousand that have already confirmed the phone true nature lets get real pleas.

Im going to take the adult role here and go back to helping people who actually need help and not get into a flame war with you. Its pretty obvious you are dead set against HTC so feel free to move on and troll somewhere else. I dont work for HTC so I guess your crazy. :)

Keep on Trolling my friend, just do it on another site.

Yes please do something useful with your time, ill be on this site every time you check it just like your for HTC M8, I am against it its called opinion which you cant handle as an adult. Lastly I don't know who your work for this is the internet duh!! and at the end of the day numbers don't lie you cant tell someone two hundred out of a thousand like the phone and call me crazy lol obviously someones in denial and it's not me. Have a good day sir.

Keep in mind, some things like the cell signal strength have a great impact on battery life. These are after all, cell phones, and a primary function is to maintain a cellular connection. A cell will kill itself to try to hold on to a very weak signal.

Trolling is bad and calling other people trolls also is bad. Please do not do this. Thank you and good night.

I'm sorry this site seems to be against the my freedom of speech, I am entitled to my opinion so dont run a forum site with bias thank you!

You are certainly entitled to having your own opinion and generally everyone will encourage you to share it.

What we are not interested in confrontational, trolling, insulting or other unproductive and disruptive posts. If everyone is keeping things civil and with the forum rules Community Rules & Guidelines - Mobile Nations Forums (especially the PUPPAH part), diversity of ideas is great. Posts like mine come in when people are not following the spirit of PUPPAH. No one is telling you (or anyone else) not to post what you think and as far as I know no one that works for the forums cares what your opinions are on devices or whatever it is we're arguing about in this thread. Thus, I am not sure what you're referring to when you say 'bias'.

Life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting.

So I'm gonna go this route and post a shot from gsamm and ask for some feedback. I can't for the life of me figure out how people go past 4 hours of screen time wirhout shutting off all functionality.

I keep wifi on all the time. On it most of the day at work. Bluetooth is on. GPS off. Screen is not auto and cut down. Synching 3 Gmail accounts. Facebook doesn't update. Trying to think of settings.

But check out the screen shot. Isn't that a bit of battery used for little usage. Signal is 4glte most of the time. Fairly good reception.

Anyway, feedback is appreciated.

well that doesnt seem like a solution really, others use facebook no problem
The facebook app is consuming a lot of your battery, but the screen shot of your screen isn't enough to reveal if thats because your spending most of your time on your phone in facebook, or if the facebook app is wasting your battery running in the background all the time. With the facebook app its always running in the background, and because of that its always using resources. If you disable, freeze, or uninstall the app and use a shortcut to the website it may be less of a drain on your system over time (if you close your browser after you're done with it). From within Chrome you could go to the website, click on the three dots in the upper right corner, and select add to home screen.

While this lasted me a whole day, based off what i see in this thread and other threads, i should be doing better with on screen time and im not sure whats holding it awake so much that seems high to me i dont have any sync options on, my brightness is always almost all the way down, i just browse the web, text and use facebook and instagram
Besides facebook instagram is also taxing for the system. Any heavy viewing of videos, music, or large pictures is going to cause battery to drain quick. What types of things are you viewing in Chrome? If you're viewing Youtube (or other videos) in Chrome that is going to drain battery quicker than if your spending your time reading text on forums.

Did you lower brightness, but leave the auto-brightness button checked? (Your screen seems to be consuming quite a bit of battery for the amount of time its reported being on). If your brightness settings really is way down then I'd expect to see it consuming 40% or less.

HTC One M7 people saw high battery drain after they patched to new versions of Android, and most of them solved it by doing a system cache clear. How to do that is listed below if you want to give it a shot.
Turn off the device.
Press and hold the Volume Down key.
Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
Continue holding the Volume Down.
Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.

What carrier are you on? There can be quiet a difference in battery life between two of the same model phones on different carriers (Verizon m8 battery life can differ by hours from AT&Ts m8 battery life for example). If there are per-installed apps from your carrier that you don't use you could see benefit from force stopping and disabling them.

You can also experiment with switching your runtime engine from Dalvik to ART, and see if that significantly boosts your battery life.
