You may prefer it - which is totally acceptable, but that doesn't make the camera any better. I've been a photographer for the better part of the last 20 years and I can safely say that the lack of detail and off-center sharpness aren't caused by user error in my case.

WHAT?? I'm not noticing any lack of detail or sharpness in the images posted above. So that leaves two possibilities, either you have a bad unit or you don't know what you're doing.

The camera is mediocre at best, even when compared to last-gen devices such as the Galaxy S4 or the Nexus 5.

I love everything else about this phone, though.

Have you thought about the possibility that you might have gotten a defected unit?
Can you post a few shots to demo the issues you mentioned, in the discussion thread?

I have - but I doubt it, considering the fact that pretty much every review on the web says the same.

The reviews might say it but the reviewers aren't necessarily photographers. I've seen consistently and significantly much better quality stuff on this thread than in any of the sample images provided by reviewers.

Ah here we go, the typical appeal to authority. How completely childish. Coming from the 5S and I'm liking M8 much more, it's just the best phone I've owned. The shots I'm getting from the M8 are at least as good, and often better, than I was getting with the latest Iphone. Not that you should believe me or any of the pictures posted in this thread, hey we aren't "every review on the web". Pffft...

I was just holding it. I do have a dash mount for navigation but it's a bit shaky for dash cam video. BTW, today was a smooth traffic day. I did have to go out of my way to get the truck info to report him. I should do a compilation of the whack motorcyclists splitting lanes at hwy speeds.
