HTC One (M8): SD card issues

OK I'm having a problem with my SD. I don't think its a kit Kat problem but I stopped being tech sauvy before 32 bit went out the window.
I have a 64 GB PNY class 10 SD card that worked and still works in my SG4 fine. When I try to load music and pictures to the SD threw the phone cable or directly to the SD I get errors. I've done full formats loaded it threw the GS4 cable but I either can't mount it in M8 or it has an error while loading. How do I put all my music and pics on SD card. I have more then internal memory can store so. Please help.

I've already said how to move media files, pictures/tv/movies from within the gallery app.

HTC M8 UK

"just because your stupid doesnt mean im lying"

That only works if you're moving photos/movies. What If I am moving office documents?. Tars? .zips?

I think this is the solution that everyone's looking for:
Ext Sd card fix (flashable zip) - xda-developers

I downloaded the zip file and flashed my M8 in custom recovery, and now all my applications can use the SD card freely again, just like on my last device.

Yes, that's the solution, but you need to unlock the bootloader first. Which is a pain if you spent a long time setting up the phone! Unlocking the bootloader requires you to restore the phone.

I just got off the phone with HTC. They said HTC phones don't use higher then class 6 and that's why my class 10's keep failing.

If that's true,I can only say "wow." But I'd love to hear an explanation for that.

I came from a Samsung S3 and used a samsung sd card. I bought a 32 gig one for my M8 and experienced non stop issues even though they were top of the line. I took out my 16GB SD card that works with my S3 and still experienced issues. Borrowed my wifes Sandisk SD card and not a single issue. I sent my 32 GB back to amazon and replaced it with a 32 GB San Disk. All issues resolved ( I did get the top of the line San Disk).

My 64gb class 10 has been humming along just fine since the first day I popped it in the M8.

Same here. Would love to hear the reasoning and/or issue with higher speed SD cards.

Have you saved a video taken on your M8 to the SD yet. My second card was fine for a day till I saved and edited a video I took with the phone. I'm going to try removing the video, remount the card and see if it fails when I take another video later.
My GS4 ran a class 10 for almost a year without fail. I can't find a class 6 64gb card, or a 128. I havent read this class 6 stuff anywhere. My guess, its just a line of BS for hardware issues.

No you don't have to do a restore of the phone in order to unlock it. I rooted and S-OFF'd my M8 so that I can backup my kernel and recovery. used weaksauce.

I have finally found the solution to this! Polaris Office 5,which comes pre-installed & thus has write permissions, has a file browser! Yyyyyyyeeeesss!

I spoke too soon,no ability to move or copy files from Ext SD even though it's pre-installed on the phone! How ******* retarded & pointless is kit-kat?!

Re: SD card issues

Long story short: Through my connections at HTC, I've made heard our issues by their HQ. They are developing a built-in file browser which is currently in test. HTC ROCKS :) Oh... and by the way, have you tested their new ultra battery save feature? It rocks as well :)

I had a HTC Rezound and with it came a 16gb sd card. So I moved it to my new HTC One but since then I've been having issues. All photos, videos, music and others are read correctly.
The problem is moving files to the sd card or within it. Happened when using a file explorer app, backing up sms/calls to sd card and all had some kind of error.

Any suggestions or thoughts of what is going on?

Moving within the sd card location doesn't work but u can move from the sd card location to the phone.

Found a fix!! Es file explorer and you must be rooted. Works just fine.

I found a solution for me.. Wich is not the best, but is the more usefull way I found !

As you know, an App can only write to his own folder (on SD Card), Based on this idea, I have installed my favorite files explorer "Fx Explorer". Then I move it to the SD Card. After moving the app to SD Card, I was able to move and create files (and folders) in the directory /storage/ext_sd/Android/data/com.nextapp.fx/files/.

Then, I have create in Fx Explorer a bookmark to this folder on the home screen, and use this folder for all my stuffs. I can now copy from internal to this folder(SD Card) without problem.

It is not the best solution because it does not resolve the problem, but permit you to move file from Internal to SD. This is a first step !

Hmm I used my computer to move my songs, picture and movies from it's storage to the 128GB CARD I have in my M8. No problem reading our playing them, I wonder why everyone here is having a problem.

It's not reading the files that's the problem. It's Kit Kat's lack of ability to move files around the sd card at will, or from phone to sd that's the problem.

Thanks, thedyb. Anyone got an update on this supposed fix? I got an M8 a few days ago and have just read up on this issue. I called HTC Australia today and they said they weren't aware of any SD card issue with KitKat. Putting their heads in the sand...

I'd prefer not to have to root my phone (I'm not very tech savvy), so the next option is to return my phone, which I'm loathe to do unless there will not be any support from Google or HTC.
