OIS really helps in low light too. I take shots at crazy low shutter speeds with the M7, given the fast lens, ultra pixels and OIS. I am afraid I would lose an f-stop or 2 without the OIS.

I think you're making his point...LOL! However, from my vantage point as the photographer. The colors from the M8 were dead on with the scene; however, i think the 5S did a better job at balancing the exposure for the sake of the photograph. It's preference really. From a detail perspective, i don't see any advantage the 5S had in the shot. But, here's the point, you have more than half the opinions favoring the M8 in the comparison pics and i'm willing to bet that most of your Ultrapixel naysayers would be very challenged to determine which photo is using 4 mps and which is using 8mps. Which completely blows their mp arguments against the M8. Which is all i am trying to do!
I think the M8 does an excellent job at metering the scene with the flash before you shoot. But, are you saying you like the lens to stay open to catch the movement of light? I mean that's a great photographer effect, but seems like it might be kinda difficult to pull off even with the M7 and OIS. At F2.0 and Ultrapixels you're still getting a lot of light, but you will need to stabilize the M8 on a tripod...
No, I am talking natural light photos. I never like the flash on the m7 or most cameras (other than bounce flash or off camera flash). You have to have a stationary subject, but with OIS you can use very slow shutter speeds, like 1/7 sec or 1/9 sec and not need a tripod
In my signature below this post "view my HTC one pix" there is one that is 1/7 sec. If you click on the pic, I recorded the f stop and shutter. I have others I will look for.
Well, i know you have taken some pretty awesome pics with your M7 and i'm thinking with your skill and the M8s ability to control so many aspects of the camera, you would do just fine with the M8. Dude, you can really do some depth of field stuff that you never really could do with the M8. I mean you could put the M7 in Macro mode and get a slightly off focus background, but nothing near the UFocus feature..
Seen them all before... they are still awesome and awesome kid too! Did your M7 ever go purple on you? Mine did..
What htc did with UFocus and Foregrounder, was give you the tools to really create highlight videos that are truly unique and awesome! You'll never get bored with this phone! It's so classy and business like, yet let's you create and play like none other!

Yeah, mine went bad around Christmas. I just sent it off last week for repair. I kept delaying it because I didn't want to wipe the phone. My wife's M7 is still fine though.

I wasn't referring to saturation in a negative way but the colors are a little thicker from the iPhone, for lack of a better word. Look at the wall and the brick pavement. I believe the M8 photo is more realistic though. I've always thought HTC had the best color reproduction. Both phones took a great picture, but they are different in lots of ways.

Sorry to hear, having to restore everything REALLY SUCKS! That's the one area of Android that you can not sell iPhone users on. It can take me a whole damn day to get my phone back to how I like it after a factory reset! You just can't do it fast!

Well, I guess it is just semantics, but looking at the two shots, saturation wise, the M8 is what most people would call over saturated vs. the iPhone. The tree is too bright green, the jeans are too bright blue. The iPhone tree and jeans look less saturated and more realistic. Again, this can be fixed in the settings or post processing.
The first shot is from an iPhone 5. The second photo is the HTC One M8. The last picture is the M7. Ignore the pink bag that is my daughter's 
These were taking from the same angle with no setting changes on any of the cameras. Figured I would do a comparison with the M7 and M8 along with the iP5.
Looks to me like the M8 took the best shot.
I still suspect HTC is relying on center weighted metering that is halfway between spot metering and full matrix metering. It's just too easily fooled by whatever is in the center of the image to be truly evaluating the entire scene.
I would speculate that HTC gives up a bit of overall accuracy in some situations in exchange for more rapid image capture. But who knows. Well. HTC knows

I'm concerned with the flair from the M8...the colors have more punch but was your lense free of smudge? It almost looks like it's got some purple tinting going on!

That's typical, however, the difference is dramatic! Like I said early on this camera is very easy to obscure because of its placement and then any little smudge can affect your pic.

I'm willing to bet that there is a TV on to the right of the photo on that wall, if so, this is normal light bleed. I am an M7 purple tint pro!
