HTC One = Total Fail?

Blame sprint. If they don't want it to get another update, it won't.

Laughable. The build quality is better than anything samsung can come up with. The rest of your criticisms are just your personal preferences, not any actual defects.

Pay more attention. Verizons version will have the exact same specs. Also not quite sure what you mean by just like last year. If you're talking about the DNA, then that's a non starter. That's a completely different handset from the one X.

I'll blame sprint if it were their fault. But sadly it wasn't. HTC just never gave an update past ICS. Meanwhile, the S2 has JB on Sprint.

Laugh all you want, but the build quality was proved to be far less then many were saying. That unibody design couldn't stop It's speaker grill from flying off from a 3 foot fall when dropped on its bottom side.
It's listed as one of the worst to repair...and we both know that if you turn in a phone for a broken screen or a defective battery, you'll get a refurb, not a new phone....or worse, have to leave your phone for days in the store, not pick it up after lunch.

I've heared so many rumors about Verizon...they are getting it, they are not, they are getting it, no they are not. But its confirmed, not any more. I just don't trust anything any more. Do you blame me?

Am I the only one who is disappointed with what the HTC One has turned into? From what I'm seeing here and other sites, some of us fans are sadly perplexed at how HTC is trying to increase sales, when it looks like they just don't care.

Instead of trying to be an hSheep and defend the phone of its proven shortcomings, how about admitting that no phone is perfect, and HTC could do better if they just would reach out and try to steal some market share from the bigger boys....you know, give the public what they want, and don't forget the tiny markets that you can get if you just have a removable battery and sd card.
Instead, they alienate some of It's base, change enough of there phone so standard gestures or button presses no longer work on HTC making it hard for new users to use it, and shrink any new market of users that might be willing to try it but can't because they might have to jump ship to ATT if they need lots of storage.

I like the phone a lot. But I'm not blinded by the aluminum. It has flaws. So does the marketing strategy. Making excuses won't help.

The carrier is at fault. If they tell HTC to not even bother, they won't .

Is that really the best you can come up with? I guarantee you that something worse will happen to a similar handset from Samsung or Motorola. Any handset, when subjected to an extreme event, will fail. Its the everyday durability people are talking about.

Reading comprehension is your friend. That repairability score was for a consumer without any specific tools for that device. Has no bearing whatsoever on actual repairability or anything similar.

Yes. Until Verizon confirms it, they're not getting it. Google DLX plus and you'll see the specs are identical to the one. (including the erroneous 13 MP camera listing that the One had during testing)

You're nearly on your own there. Best in class screen, camera at least tied for best in class, fantastic design and build, and software that actually fixes a lot of htcs past issues. If you have problems with that, it's your own deal and not a reflection of the actual device.

They gave the public what they want. 200 million iPhones can't be wrong, after all. This is their attempt to reach out, and given what some of their competitors are offering, it is exactly on par with what the market expects.

Instead, they alienate some of It's base, change enough of there phone so standard gestures or button presses no longer work on HTC making it hard for new users to use it, and shrink any new market of users that might be willing to try it but can't because they might have to jump ship to ATT if they need lots of storage.

So you're complaining about them changing the buttons... Which their biggest competitor is also guilty of. You also neglect to recognize that the people that care about those things represent a tiny majority of users. The people here and on other forums are not the normal customers. That 'base' apparently is nothing of the sort if recent events are anything to go by.

You're trying to find flaws where there are very few, to justify your criticism. If the phone isn't for you, that's fine. But you're getting yourself worked into a knot based on a hornet's nest of false premises and inaccurate perceptions.

I have to agree with the OP, this phone is a huge fail.

1. My TV screen is bigger.

2. It will not make my coffee every morning.

3. Not enough memory to store the library of Congress.

4. The battery is terrible, it won't jump start my car in emergencies.

5. It's metal instead of cheap plastic.

Total fail.

I don't care what kind of phone you have, that's not how I judge someone's worth or intelligence.

To answer the OP....no.

I think as the years go by our expectations go up, some of us anyway. I believe we will hit a lull when it comes to innovation and features soon. Its already there with PC's for the most part.

Dual speakers AND FM Radio? Thats not a total fail in my book.

They already have. You clearly haven't used any recent HTC hardware.

You're right, if you read my posts you'll see that I clearly was not on an htc flagship phone running the latest version of sense. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Obviously sense is great because no one's ever been disappointed with it and left for a different manufacturer. And that's why htc has been so successful in recent history.

I apologize for being the only one who's ever had issues with sense. Wait I take that back because as it was pointed out so kindly to me I never had the phone to begin with

Personally, I'd go with not ugly, functional and supported, which AOSP certainly is.

I have no problem with people rooting, I think it's great that people can do that and it makes them happy. My problem is when people make it a requirement to deal with a crappy phone. I expect a phone to be functional out of the box and not need to be rooted just to get basic functionality and decent performance

Not nearly as functional as touch wiz.

I would install AOSP but it would remove all the great features of my phone without replacing them with anything. Why buy a Samsung phone then disable the features that make it such a great phone?

I've yet to find a Samsung "feature" that isn't either useless gimmicky garbage or improved upon by a counterpart on Google play.

Voice control for apps (saying cheese for pictures, stop or snooze for alarms, playing music and controlling the functions of that player from across the room with just the voice)

Exactly like I said. Either gimmicky garbage or available in Google play in a more polished form.

Multiview I'll give you, although it's only really useful with larger devices like the Note line or tablets.

How is it gimmicky? Some people may find them useful.

Having to install an app instead of it being native functionality is the apple way of doing things. Samsung is "feature" happy and I'll say personally u don't use many of them and some u would call gimmicky. But they don't detract at all by being there, they can be turned off, and they are just built in functionally and not additional apps. S beam is really slick and a big reason is it's so easy and it just works because it's not an optional app. That's just my 2 cents on the subject. That and I would rather have a gimmick that I can turn off with one toggle switch in settings than blink feed taking up a home screen all the time

Quite the opposite really, apple don't allow apps or tweaks to their os, it's very android to customize.

Agree that there's nothing wrong with 'gimmicks' through, there's always people they suit.

Just want to add my two cents. I don't see the big deal with software versions. Yea sometimes it's a big deal but maybe it's a more stable version.

Battery life is a give and take, unless you try it for youself then I wouldn't judge because most reviews are always different and they test the battery before its conditioned. For example the prof on Att had bad battery life reviews and in my hands it outlasted the hox+, the gs3, and iPhone 4.

Also camera megapixels don't really matter because look at the Sonys 12mp cameras to iPhone's 5mp. It depends on the sensor, lens, and software.

Also the weight of a phone plays into part but I'd prefer a more solid phone than a light weight one just because I think it has better build quality but with that said the gs3 has a great build quality and it's a solid phone.

That's just my thoughts.

I happen to think that including half-baked software that most people won't use and is available in better form in the Play store to be gimmicky. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that's just mine.

I'd actually have to say that installing apps for specialized tasks is patently Android and is one of the primary reason so many of us select it as our platform of choice.

And while you can choose to disable touchwiz features, you cannot (most regrettably) toggle a button and turn off touchwiz. It's an absolute proven fact that a GS3 running AOSP will have better battery life, be far, FAR smoother and score higher benchmarks than it's stock touchwiz counterpart.

The only possible reasons I can think of to not run AOSP and use apps that mirror touchwiz features is the lack of knowledge on how to do so, or weariness of trying it for the first time.

Again, these are just my opinions, but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would willingly cripple their device with Samsung's bloated abomination.

Yes android is great for customizing and that's why I switched from IOS. But my point is apple's slogan is/was "there's an app for that" meaning you can't make any changes to anything and everything has to be in apps. Take changing a keyboard for instance. When the swype keyboard app first came to IOS it really showed how sad things had gotten...

It's crazy how everyone gets so mad at innovation and just calls it gimmicky. No wonder Apple quit innovating. No one wants it anymore. If we did, we wouldn't crucify the companies who step out on a limb and try new things. Everyone says gimmicks are not going to be used by everyone. Is that not applied to every last consumer product on the market?
Please, can't we do better at finding actual weaknesses with phones other than being lazy and just calling them all gimmicks? So much for the war on Apple. It's just a civil war now within the Android ecosystem.
