HTC One = Total Fail?

The Note was ridiculed when it first came out. Predicting trends is difficult.

100% agree with you. It's just my guess and I'm not calling anyone wrong.

the only two fails for the htc one in my mind is it ships with 4.1.2 and has a smaller non removable battery.

The battery is a definite thing to be concerned with because it is what it is. But i highly doubt the one will go very long without an android update and I certainly wouldn't not buy the phone because it ships with 4.1.2

Which is bad why? And the differences between 4.1.2 to 4.2.2 are so vast and you cant live without which features in 4.2.2 that arent in 4.1.2.? Just curious because if there were huge differences or performance increase or something that made it that much better I'd understand. From what I've read there arent very many to write home about.

Take it one step further. Remember the Dell Streak? That 5-incher went nowhere fast, and everybody ridiculed it because it was too big. They even had trouble calling it a "phone". :)

I would venture to say that front facing speakers are worthless to most people who listen to music thru headphones mostly. I cannot think of a single time that I said to myself, "Dang, I wish I had some awesome front facing speakers on my cell phone".

If your on your own all the time then yes.

In groups of friends.....for music, or when showing YouTube videos, or the fact the speakers are stereo for playing games. There's more. Plus the phone does have a headphone jack to fall back on, one with beats audio too.

To be honest I've found 4.2 to be really half baked. The new features (locksreen widgets, daydreaming, and notification tray toggles) are all really minor features that I personally don't even like. Everyone can have their own option but I'm honestly glad its not launching with 4.2.2 because it actually seems a bit inferior to 4.1.2 in my experience. I know Phil has voiced a somewhat similar opinion in the podcast but I don't want want to put words in his mouth (because I don't have those exact words).

I wouldn't bet on it. I would guess more phones look like the s4 where the front of the phone is nearly all display. We also see this with every mock up and render of rumored phones as well. I'm not ragging on the one by any means but I could see where I get tired of seeing large speaker grills taking up realistate on the front of my phone and making my phone longer. I love the fact that speaker quality is improving and I hope htc keeps pushing that but I don't see similar front facing speakers as the wave of the future. Just my two cents

Unless of course your precious note had them, then they would be all that! Its funny you don't even try to hide the fact that you are a troll! Imho

Remember what the doormouse said, feed your head!

Both valid points, we will see what happens, either way. I, myself, have always hated the sound of phones because of the speakers on the back, and I rarely use headphones, except for at the gym for music. I'm really excited about boomsound :)

Maybe for us that use our phones as an alarm clock. I have to remember to lay my phone face down just so I can hear the alarm. Those dual speakers I know have to make the alarm clock louder. And those of us that do look at things like Netflix at specific times. I have to cup the speaker or make sure the volume bounces off something so it can be louder.

I look at Netflix in the bathroom...lol, or waiting in the car for someone. Just learned how to make the sound come thru the car wirelessly....so the car might be a moot point now.

Ppl that show others things on their phone, the dual front speakers are a nice thing. I remember many a break, lunch time at work we had to sit in a certain area to hear better, or hope everyone was quiet as a mouse.

I had similar issues with my evo but not anymore with the note. Speaker has good volume and the shape of the phones means it's plenty loud face up or face down. I use my phone for an alarm clock as well and don't have any issues. Can you hear the one speakers at all with the phone face down?

I guess for me I'd prefer the quality of the one speakers but either built into the side of the phone similar to the iPhone or on the back. Just my personal preference

I dont have the One....my current phone has the speaker on the back. I lay it on my bed or clothes, so the speaker can get really muffled if my phone is on its back. When getting my phone in the morning, I sometimes hit dismiss by mistake because the phone is face down, when trying to turn the phone over.

Like others above me said....I'd love some front facing speakers.

You can call the front speakers worthless in the sense that nobody needs them. But it's wrong to think nobody would find reason to like and want them. I find worth in the idea.

I listen to TuneIn in the mornings. Talk radio keeps me going when I'm groggy. And when I'm walking around or when I have the bathroom fan on while I'm shaving I always wish my speakers were louder so I could hear them... Front facing speakers are one of my more anticipated features.

I watch YouTube vids on my phone all the time with friends. It's very hard to hear the audio most of the time. Loud front facing speakers should be awesome for me and anyone similar. I can see how some would find them less useful though.

Plus the screen viewing angles are awesome so it's perfect for sharing what's on screen

If you're referencing me I'm pretty sure I never called the speakers worthless. And it sounds like most people just want louder speakers more so than front facing speakers. And volume of the speaker was one of the first things I complimented on the note 2 and said the one owners will enjoy, especially those coming from the evo like I did.

Seems logical that front facing would be better as most people don't lay their device screen down.

Seems logical that manufacturers don't make the back of the phone flat.. . The phone is usually louder when placed on a surface screen up.

And again all I said was I don't believe this is the wave of the future because I don't see the aesthetics catching on. I'm not saying this is the only phone that will ever have front facing speakers but I don't think it will be standard. Just like phones with screens over 5", there's an established market for that but it probably won't be the norm in the future.

What use is a phone face up unless your head is right over the screen? Most people put the screen at an angle, which makes what you're talking about completely useless.

HTC should have done with the speakers what Pantech did last year with the speakers on their Discover model. Larger and side mounted. It wouldn't take away from screen space and it gives better stereo separation.
