HTC One V

the performance at stock will be bad. laggy, not very smooth anywhere. no stock OS works as well as cm7 does

it wont shine until custom roms get on it. even then it might only be on par with the triumph. and the triumphs still got a bigger screen....

triumph sucks :p
my lg marquee kills it.

I would gladly take a nexus s 4g on wimax

It can be done you won't get wimax but it can be done.

There are reports the leaked One V's ROM runs pretty fast on other devices. HTC admitted Sense got too bloated and the newer versions should be more optimized.

HTC One V ROM Ported to Desire HD and Desire S | xda-developers

This device will likely get a lot of dev support since it'll be released on multiple carriers, kind of like how the Optimus One/V/S/T/C. The integrated battery isn't ideal, but such designs don't prevent development for other tablets & phones.

What makes you say this? CyanogenMod isn't the end-all for performance. Heck, the OV's port is alot slower than my previous phone's, the Motorola Dext, and that didn't even have a good GPU since it was the same as the G1's. CM performance is subjective, and nothing will beat a stock remix or AOSP in terms of performance even in the face of CyanogenMod. (Don't believe me? Go back to a Froyo ROM and you'll see the difference almost immediately)

The phone will be great. You'll herald the Triumph as the better phone but the One V will match or surpass the Triumph in specs depending on what Snapdragon SoC they use. You'd be nuts to think a lightweight Sense ICS is slower than a stock Froyo.

HTC will put polish on this as the face of their new strategy and lineup, and I'll bet it will end up as the better phone.

Sense is usually slower than plain Android, though it has supposedly come a long way.

You are right about CyanogenMod though, people pander way too much to it.
That isn't to say CM is bad, but CM has this mega reputation, but it's well known because it was one of the first roms that supported a lot of devices (and had lots of nice tweaks), not necessarily because it's something magical in terms of speed. CM's speed is nothing special, when tweaked, even a stock rom can usually run quite fast. A great example is Bumblebee and Harmonia 1 vs CM roms, they hold their own against it.

Compare any of these roms to stock though and stock looks absolutely pathetic. The stock rom runs about 25% slower than any well done rom. Harmonia can run at 480mhz and still rings around a stock phone (seriously!). It's all due to bloat on the stock rom, not because of magical CM tweaking.

I have a friend with the HTC thunderbolt, and while he is still not overclocled or anything, I've really.noticed that his phone is not snappy. His home screen lags like the OVs did back on stock and things are slow to open and scroll... plus sense is just so darn ugly /myopinion:p

am i the only one who isnt a little scared by all these nice phones i love my OV and it scares me to think cheap nicer phone=users flocking to it=devs flock to it=little to no development for the V

I agree. I've ran through many phones and I'll take stock remixes a la BumbleBee or Harmonia over mostly any CM release. They run much faster the majority of the time with better battery. IHO is OK but people drink the CM Kool-Aid. The Froyo ROMs are much better.

Older Sense was very slow, which is why it is often looked down upon.
This is also why "pure" Android is touted as being such a bonus on phones.

Oder Sense was slow, then pile on the bloatware and you end up with a disaster.
My Evo with a Mik Sense rom runs great.

Yeah gotta say, back when I was running bumblebee, I got fantastic battery life. I mean I would be on airplane mode at work because we didnt have service and I could make it from six in the morning to eleven at night only using like 10%. The cm stuff almost acts like bloatware because it runs in the background although I am fine with the trade offs.

Wow - looks great - will be surprised if the price is that low - but here's for hoping.

If it is at $200 I might actually pry open the wallet, swat away the moths and buy one.

Why does everyone think this is too good to be true?

Memory has come down, and a single core 1gig is over 2 years old at this point. We are looking at quad cores on the way.

It could be too good to be true because the phones VM is currently selling to us for $200 are not 1ghz processors with more than a gig of internal... just sayin

And how much longer do you think they can keep doing that?
People are already leaving over the phones.

Hopefully they are business minded enough to give us something good enough at a decent enough price to stay. You've made a good point.

I was set to leave the first quarter of this year because of the lack of better phones. This phone is what is going to keep me from doing it. I will not stay with VM unless they are going to have a better selection of smartphones.

Excellent point...though I've enjoyed my Optimus V modified phone (thanks to LeslieAnn!) tremendously, I'm leaving for T-mobile prepaid in another month...I wanted a phone with a larger screen and better processor (won't even consider the Triumph). Found one...rooted it...and installed a very fast custom ROM with a 4.3" screen and much improved camera (I'm a photographer and occasionally don't bring my photo equipment with me). And my plan will only cost $5 more per month...well worth it to me for a much better phone and 5GB of 4G (which is more like 3.5G?) of data. Thanks to ALL on this forum who have helped me become a much better phone consumer and custom ROM devotee!
