HTC One V

I doubt virgin will get this... maybe boost. They want to push customers to boost's $55/month unlimited service for mid-range android phones. Virgin is going to only get crap phones from now on, stuff along the lines of the motorola-branded triumph. Always a catch as incentive to move up to a phone with quality components, on boost.

Why doubt it?
Virgin cannot keep up this game of 600mhz phones. The OneV is barely a bottom of the barrel phone at this point, compared to everything else on the market.

Virgin isn't really doing us any favors releasing this phone to us, it's a low end phone that if they don't offer soon, people will be bolting for the exits.

Why haven't you bolted yet? Esp with tmobile having 4g for just $30?

I am VERY tempted to join tmobile. VM is bottling the 3g, horrible phones, horrible customer service. It was nice as my first service, but im not a virgin anymore.

Virgin's $25 plan suits me perfectly in terms of minutes and coverage. Data isn't exactly smoking, but meh... My issue is mostly the phones.

I currently use an Evo 4G on Virgin (don't ask). I almost left in January, but went with this instead because of the plan and to see what happens. It was A LOT cheaper than leaving.

Same here. The $25 plan suits me as well, the 300 min. is perfect for what I need. (The 100min @ T-Mobile would not be enough). Its just the phones (or lack, thereof) that has me one foot out the door.
(so to speak). The HTC One V looks like it will be a good addition to VM.

A little off topic, but has anyone looked at ting.com they have no contract and you build your own plan. Still on sprints network. Looks kind of neat.

I wish this would have been the case for me. Vm's coverage in my travel zone sucks. I was happy with the phone but lack of coverage in a 90 mile zone I have to travel sucks balls.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been looking frantically for a new phone. The V just isn't cutting it for me. I will most likely hop on this phone if it comes out soon enough, but I've been leaning towards the Exhibit II 4g on T-Mobile. The plan is just as good (A little less) and around the same price, but the phones is what is pushing it to the top. I mean, the Triumph has lost its top two devs they will ever get due to T-Mobile's new deal.
My brother owns the Thunderbolt, and it seems that this phone will have the same specs as the Thunderbolt, but it will have Sense 4.0 instead, which is a huge plus. I've always loved Sense for some reason. That is also another plus because then I won't be forced to put another ROM on it just for a different look.
These are just my random rants about the topic at hand ;)

Had the Triumph been better, or the OV not had the support it does, people would have left here in droves when T-Mobile announced those plans. I mean completely GUTTED.

As for the Triumph, it's heyday is over, the OneV will kill off whatever development is left that T-mobile hasn't already stolen. The dev community and price is what has kept the OV going this long.

That's sad to hear. I really liked the Triumph's look / feel. I wonder if it's because nobody has taken the time to REALLY nail down and fix issues and get a great ROM going, or if it's just a bad phone to develop for and wasn't worth the time. I was hoping to pick it up once it gets a price drop but don't want something that I will have to compromise my happiness for. The One V just doesn't make me say "WOW" like the Triumph did when it was released (again, look and feel in my hands only, never had enough time using it to apply the 'wow' factor to functionality.)

Honestly, I just want a Droid RAZR, lol. Curse you, contract pricing and deposits. argh.

edit -- I'm mildly inspired to start building ROMs for my OV as practice, get confident enough to tackle a nice, stable, problems-solved ROM for the Triumph when the time comes for me to upgrade....hmm....

edit 2 -- I wonder since they are all the "One" series, something could be ported from the One V to a CDMA One X to use on Virgin. Not asking if it's possible, noone knows, may involve ESN nonsense, etc...but still, just dreaming. Not thrilled about the One V but the One X makes me drool.

The Triumph has gotten better, or so I hear, but people still say you have to root and rom it to make it run right. CM7 supposedly helps a lot. My concern is this... I'm not paying that much, just to void the warranty to make it run right. It should run right, and then you make it better, like we did with the OV.

Regardless, I wouldn't buy a Triumph.
You may have said WOW, but hardware specs alone do not make a great phone. A good example is the OV, it's specs say poor performer, but look at what all we have done with the thing, it's "the little phone that could". A bunch of low end parts (and a few devs), came together to make a great little phone.

It obviously will slow at some point, but I wouldn't say it's slowly dying yet.

The OV is probably in it's prime right now. We have more supported roms and devs than ever in OV histor, I don't think any phone has ever gotten better support as it aged, especially a year after being released.

Evo 3d rumored to be coming
HTC EVO V 4G: An EVO 3D for Virgin Mobile

I'll believe it when I see it, but when I do, I'm sold.
(BTW, you can disable the 3d screen)

Would be nice! Won't hold my breath though. I'm hoping they have some decent phones out long before Thanksgiving so I can catch them on sale then. That would give me plenty of time to watch the forums/devs to see which phone has the most active devs.

I've weighed the pros and cons in my head, and personally, the battery issue is a deal killer, for me. Sure, it has the 10 second circuit, but that's just if you need to power off. What if you have a bad battery? If the battery can't pop out, that's just a bad start to a good design. My philosophy is, software AND hardware should both be as transparent and open as reasonably possible. Locking in a battery is just a crap move. I can't really get a phone like that. Sorry.

Lol. Indeed.

Very good point, LA. I don't see a deep dev community developing around the Triumph myself, either. For one, it is only on a single carrier, VM. And secondly, it's a good phone, but it has it's detractors too. I think alot of the hype around it is just because it's the next new thing, but that's just IMO.
