HTC One X "Camera unable to start" Error Message

Re: HTC One X "Camera unable to start" Error Message

Hahaha I have no idea what that is. I'm new to this, but like I said earlier my google-fu is strong so I'm guessing it's not since it runs on a MIUIs and Cyanogen Mod fusion. But again I'm just putting pieces together.

Ah my bad. So it is a stock jellybean rom.

AOSP= Android Open Sourced Project

which means that they just took the source code from google and then they edited some stuff themselves.

Not sure, so you said you tried to flash a sense 5 rom? What sense 5 roms have you tried?

Same behavior, starts out ok with the viewfinder looking solid then, as soon as I try to take picture it freezes and dies.

Are you on a stock rom?

Mine just started doing the same thing and i held down the power button and pressed restart and once it came back on it started working again... turning off my phone didn't do it but that did!:)

i am facing the exact same problem since yesterday night.
i am on viper xl+, i have already done a factory reset also, what else can be done ?

just tried a stock ROM backup as well, but no gain !
i have started to believe that its not a software issue but a hardware one .
i have tried installing/flashing various camera apk for HOX+ jellybean, but absolutely no change....
anyone ???? help required immediately
and as luck would have it, my phone is out of warranty.

Got this problem on my wife's HTC One X 2 nights ago.
After reading this thread, I disabled GPS, reboot, and the Camera starts working once again.
Luckily my wife don't even have a data plan, nor use the map function on the road, therefore she can live without GPS.
(Even for me, I would choose Camera over GPS..)

THIS WAS NOT A PERMANENT FIX - SORRY.

SOLVED! - at least for me.

I've had my X for about two years now and it started exhibiting the camera error symptom a couple of days ago.

I've done exhaustive research over several Forums, including this one and the "official" HTC Forums - all to no avail.

I've reset my phone to factory defaults a couple times, tried installing other camera apps, etc. Still, nothing "permanently" worked. The camera would boot up, and then crash immediately.

So, after ordering a new HTC One (M8), I spent some time with the X to try everything I could, no matter what it was.

This is what worked for me:

  1. I sent all my pics to Google Drive, and made sure everything was synced
  2. I removed my SIM card (no instructions I read in any Forum stated to do this)
  3. I reset the phone to factory default
  4. When it cycled through the erasure of data and rebooted, I skipped the Google sign-in procedure (including choosing a WiFi network) and got the phone settled to "Emergency Calls Only" (DO NOT CHOOSE THAT OPTION IN THE SIGN-UP PROCEDURE - ALWAYS CHOOSE "SKIP")
  5. Then, I inserted my SIM card, and waited a few seconds to handshake with my carrier's network.

I didn't have to fool with disabling anything, and all features worked - even the camera and another downloaded app - Camera FV-5 (which is awesome, BTW).

Once I confirmed things were back to normal, I went to the PlayStore and downloaded all my apps.

Yep, still working!!!

I've been assembling and troubleshooting PC's for almost 20 years and this is one of the first times that I have come across a unique fix to a very common problem on any device I've seen.

Hope this works for you, too!

Don

I had a ptoblem with HTCOX camera. It just stopped working on a business trip to Quebec from the US. I searched and read all the forums, did reset, power cycle etc and still got error saying camera cannot start. I installed other camera apps and no dice. On way home my battery drained completely. I had mega airport delays etc....When I charged it again, all came back fine. Camera was fully operational. Thought Id share this because draining the battery was a happy accident.

Okay, so this started happening to my camera tonight and I was a bit pissed off because my warranty is up but my mom gave me the idea of looking on Google. I came across this first and thought great I won't be able to fix it. But I checked another page off Google and found one thing that has worked. Go into your settings and go to power and turn off fast boot and then power off your phone wait a few minutes turn it back on and it should work just fine. But don't forget to turn fast boot back on. Worked on my phone hope it works on yours. Good luck.

Actually a good idea as fastboot doesn't allow the phone to fully shut down.
