HTC One X Wireless Connectivity Via Wireless Repeaters ... ???

Hi!

I'm new to the forums today and have posted my first query here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/general-help-how/94161-cant-connect-internet-wi-fi.html

I don't want this to be a duplicate thread, of course, so I'm posting the link in case anyone can help me. I notice the thread to which I posted went dead in August, without a solution being offered, which is one of the reasons why I wish to draw attention to it here. I'm using ICS 4.0.4 - has anyone else had an issue connecting wirelessly to the internet via repeater signals? My partner's HTC Desire doesn't exhibit the problem - in fact, my phone is the only device we have that does, so I've concluded that the issue is with an ICS setting that I can't find or am unable to change. Does anyone know how to resolve the issue? Thanks in advance!

Its because almost nobody uses repeaters.
Its fairly unusual, even for large campuses, they just run cat 5 to each wireless router.

I suspect it is because of the way the HTC sets up the wireless connection, (quite probably a bug).
And you may have more luck setting it up using the manual setup method.

You could try using the alogcat app, or better yet, the alogrec app, while you try to connect. Even if you don't understand the giberish that comes out, HTC Tech-support probably will. (That worked for me, I sent them my logs, pointing out the place in the logs where things went gunnysack when my HOX fell into the loop obtaining IP address. I even traced it to the section of Android code that issued those messages, and they fixed it with the next release).

Thanks for your answer. I'm not quite sure why you think that nobody uses repeaters! Not everybody wants the hassle or mess of running cables around their home, and if you look at the number of wireless repeaters on the market, there is clearly a great demand for them.

Since posting here, I have installed a little app called Smart WiFi, which means that I can ignore the repeater signals with my phone and use just the signal from the main router, which gives internet access. It's not a big deal: the main aim of the repeaters was to boost the signal for laptop and iPad usage, and that has worked perfectly. I am sure it is a bug with the phone and/or ICS, and it will get fixed eventually, I suspect, but unfortunately there aren't enough hours in my day at the moment to spend sending logs off to HTC.

Thanks again for responding.
