HTC Rezound vs. Galaxy Nexus

I just can't decide between the two until I can hold both of them in my hand & see the screens for myself. I'm wondering if the 1.2 GHz processor in the Nexus is going to be noticeably slower than the 1.5 GHz processor in the Rezound.

Anyone?

I think the question will be instead:

I'm wondering if the 1.5 GHz processor in the Rezound is going to be noticeably slower than the 1.2 GHz processor in the Nexus.

Just change your name to GNex and go for it

lol. I've had my handle ("TBolt") for years - it has nothing to do with the HTC Thunderbolt.

@Adrynalyne - interesting. I guess the numbers do lie sometimes.

The Rezound is a great phone, but its in a different class than the Galaxy Nexus. The new Sense looks nice, but its still, well, Sense. That, and HTC reps have made it clear that the ICS update won't be ICS as we all know it; it'll come with Sense, which is disappointing. (and pretty tone deaf on the part of HTC)

Other than that, the Rezound has better pixel density, a similarly nice screen, and some seriously awesome multimedia capabilities. It will be a great device if you use it for media, and it comes with a $120 set of Beats earbuds in the box. That, and the new version of Sense is quite good for what it is. It seems as though its not as cumbersome as past versions, but its still very much the same Sense as debuted on the HTC Hero.

Here's my problems with it:
-No NFC: Not a huge deal, per se, but its an omission that comes in to play later on down the road
-Small battery: It remains to be seen what battery life is going to be like, but Sense is a battery hog, and HTC seems to like smaller capacity batteries.
-No real ICS: HTC is committed to Sense. That's fine if you like it, but ICS is finally good enough to stand on its own without a skin, and HTC is ignoring that. (that arrogance alone makes me not want to buy any HTC device in the future)
-Snapdragon S3: 1.5ghz may sound awesome, but this processor is based on an outdated A8 core, and lags behind even the 4430.

The GNex processor is a generation ahead of the Rezound's. The Nexus will be faster in all areas.

Just my opinion but I want a raw android phone but never wanted to switch to T mobile to get one. Sense and all the vendor, and carrier bloat is just that BLOAT. These vendors are turning into PC makers with all the useless crap.

Ill be picking up a Nexus day one and will not miss sense or the endless useless apps on my incredible.

Agreed. I was really attracted to the Rezound because of the beats audio and earbuds. It's not a big deal to some but, music is a big thing for me on phones now. It's why I like the iphone because, the music player's sound quality IMO has been better than the one on Android. It's not a huge difference but, it's
different.

When I installed poweramp on my Xoom it beat both the Itunes and the stock player on Android as far as sound by a big margin.

I also agree what you said about sense. It doesn't look bad and, I like the LauncherPro-like screen transition but, with ICS I see no need for them to install sense. It makes it nice for the average consumer but, from my experience, a phone with pure Android operates much faster and, is much more responsive.

In the meantime, have you tried Go Launcher EX or the other launchers? I haven't used Sense in over a year thanks to the 3rd party launchers on the Market.

I expect I'll stick with the 3rd party launchers as I upgrade my hardware.

I was so set on getting the GN until I saw the video on the HTC Rezound and i realize that both are yet to be released. Any concepts at whether or not one will be that far superior than the other?

The only downside I can make out at this time is that the Rezound will not have ICS initially.

Thanks in advance as always.

David

You can't beat the simultaneous voice + data over LTE *and* 3G on the Rezound. You might find this thread helpful:

I am actually happy that the nexus is coming out after the rezound and the razr. That means more people that don't really care will have a chance to walk in and be wooed by fancy advertising and not take a potentially limited supply Nexus from one of us geeks that are dying to get our grubby hands on one.

Realistically, skinned android phones are actually better suited for normal consumers because they come with all the stuff they expect preinstalled... Facebook and twitter are already integrated into the skins. They have pretty clocks with windshield wiper animations and flashy friend Widgets, etc...

My father is moving to an android phone from years of blackberry/outlook hell and at first he was really interested in the rezound. The only reason he is getting a Nexus is because I am getting a pair for my wife and I and he knows there has to be a reason. If I hadn't mentioned getting the prime, he was ready to throw down on launch day for a Rezound. He almost made the mistake of buying the htc phone with the purse charm because he thought it was the same thing...

So please... Verizon... make sure to launch the skinned phones first to make room for us geeks. Just don't make us wait to long. My wife is dying to dump her DX (although I have to admit I am proud that she has tossed cm7, miui and omfgb on there at different points) and I swear she is convinced I am personally delaying the launch to mock her.

After having a Thunderbolt for around 6 months I will now own another HTC phone for a long while. I also really don't like sense so it's the GN for me.

I think it will be weird to use all these phones with buttons on ICS...
Anyone thought about how the "buttoned" phones will work with ICS?

I had the thunderbolt for 2 weeks. Never again for me with HTC. Can't wait for the Nexus.

Are you implying that more Ghz, doesn't give you better performance? A larger dual core processor will always beat a smaller dual core. Hardware optimization is a total fallacy dreamt up by people who actually have a tight grasp on reality. I know many idiots who can prove it just by saying so......Sorry, I'm still laughing at a post I read in a thread earlier similiar to this one ^^^. It absolutely, made my day.

Glad to hear saved him from buying the "ladies phone". However, I may be reading this wrong but the way you wrote the quoted post, it makes it sound like you want people who stop in a store. To be impressed by the ad campaign, creates an interest and then not buy a phone. Wouldn't it make more sense to hope they aren't impressed so they don't buy one, so you go home with one.
