HTC Software update available incl. Menu button fix

I don't see an update. Is it a system or firmware update?

Do a restart and download it again.

HTC EVO 4G LTE

Yep did that, clicking on the download complete just kept sitting in the endless "verifying" Window. Finally went back to "HTC Software Update" (as if to download again) then it started applying the update.

Go back and trying looking for update again. Same thing happened to me

So far not much of an improvement on multitasking for me. Switching between email, Dolphin and the AC app after 15 seconds of being away from an app it reloads the page.

Anyone get these strange text after the update?

My multitasking works like it should. there is no page reloading here. The screen sometimes blinks when switching between apps, but it doesn't reload like it used to. I'm now able to have several apps all running at the same time and I can switch between them and each app has continued its processing in the background. With the new full screen without the 3 menu dots I'm very happy.

Re: Firmware update available incl. Menu button fix

is it me or did it improve reception? I did it this morning and have had no problems today at all.

Re: Firmware update available incl. Menu button fix

I am cautiously optimistic about my perceived reception improvements, only time will really tell, but so far today I have had zero dropped calls.

This phone + Sprint has been unusable for me as a phone, it just drops calls left and right. I've already started shopping around for different carriers in my area and started trying to figure out how to get out of my Sprint contract.

I'm going to be testing call quality / connection over the next couple of days, praying that this ota update somehow fixed my problem.

I wish there was a really detailed change log for what was fixed / added. I hate this guessing game stuff.

I got one of those, I thought it was very strange it showed up in my Handcent log but not in Google Voice inbox, as I have that integrated.

Yep I got this also

Re: Firmware update available incl. Menu button fix

is it me or did HTC actually fix the multitasking problem? so far I've been swapping between chrome and Facebook and neither app has "refreshed" itself. what do you guys think?

Well, there is generally no "fixed" or "broken" when it comes to this topic (multitasking/memory management/task switching), just a range of behaviors. With the low end behavior being what we have been stuck with for months (which was unacceptable and beyond frustrating).

But I can say that I have been launching stuff and flipping around, and not even ONCE did it "reload" the browser page I was on. And when I jump back to settings, that doesn't reload either (I scrolled to a specific point). And I was able to start Google Play app updates and immediately leave that and switch to a few other things, turn the phone into standby, and THE UPDATES DID NOT ABORT like it always did in the past.

These are all very good signs. Of course, we have not been messing with this long, that could change, especially if garbage collection isn't working well. Also, I have not loaded any big apps that would push things out of memory.

So far, I am impressed with this update...

It will depend on exactly which apps are loaded, how many other "services" are running (and must be resident), how long the phone has been "up", how much it is used, etc.

I can say, without a doubt, things have improved. Is it to the level of what I was used to with the Evo 3D? Not sure yet.... maybe. Can it compare to the stock Xoom Nexus? No, but I don't expect it ever will because Sense still eats a LOT more memory than stock ICS or Jellybean do.

So far my battery life is much better. In the same exact situations as yesterday pre-update, my phone is about 15% higher (maybe more) than usual at this time of day.

Also, notice they got rid of the battery stage with just the end of battery empty. It's hard to describe but it's different.

Finally, another thing I have noticed is numbers and names are much bigger on phone calls, something I very much appreciate (no I'm not 70, but it makes it easier to read while driving and walking)
